Makes sense to me. If you have something you’re really battling in your own life, and you (like most conservatives) struggle to understand that others experience the world differently from you, of course you’re going to treat it like it’s a generally big problem.
I even feel a little sorry for guys like that. Nobody chooses what gets them off sexually. This guy didn’t hurt any actual children. There are good reasons that porn is illegal, but I feel about that guy the way I do about some guy drinking himself to death on the sidewalk, i.e. not scornful but more just sad that there are people built with compulsions they are unable to control. I have a good idea of what that’s like.
I always wonder about that - is there actually much professionally produced for-profit child porn? - but I don’t know what the answer is and I have no interest in arguing the finer points of the legality of child porn.
I know a guy in Melbourne who is a lawyer and told me about a guy, already on probation for child porn, who went to jail merely for reading erotic stories which depicted minors. I gotta say I’m a lot more dubious there’s any crime there.
Never really made sense to me, I must say. Like I don’t think there are people out there producing child porn who only wish they could get work digging ditches. I think if you’re in that line of work, it’s probably for the love of it. The better argument is simply that the distribution of those images contributes to the ongoing harm of the victim and their family. The victims consistently say that knowing the material is still circulating is a huge part of their burden.
Like everything in life there are degrees of child pornography. On one hand, you have the 18 year old and their 17 year old partner sexting each other. On the other hand, you have child sex trafficking of pre-pubescent kids. People in the former category have their lives destroyed by getting lumped in with people in the latter category.
You can’t really discuss the issue without being clear what you mean.
The charitable interpretation here is that he is saying that this is actually what Disney is like and he wishes that it was a really parody instead of unintentional truth from a parody website.
There’s actually a strong push to de-stigmatize pedophilia by some in the mental health world so that pedos are more likely to seek treatment and learn how to resist their urges versus it continuing to be horribly taboo and something they can’t even bare facing about themselves as a truth, such as the dude quoted above experienced.
My deplorable brother has recently been posting a lot of anti-porn stuff and how it ruins both the lives of the performers and the people that watch it.
I’m currently watching the documentary “Mitt.” It is worth a watch. Absolutely jarring to see how quickly the GOP insanity took hold. The 2008 GOP primary bears no resemblance at all to current politics.
