I think I started that whole affair because I linked to the Georgia immigration debate going on there, which was wall to wall racism.
I haven’t posted there in years, but decided to stop by to read what the forum said about another local issue: Buckhead cityhood.
The backstory is Buckhead is the rich, white part of Atlanta. It is trying to secede from the city for reasons such as crime, lower taxes, and “government incompetence.” I pointed out their reasoning and language was completely racialized, and the prevailing sentiment was that I was “playing the race card” and that “the word racist doesn’t even mean anything anymore.” So yeah, a decade later nothing has changed.
The bigger picture: Tucker Carlson and Fox News are championing Buckhead cityhood, and it could become nationally relevant. This could be a test case to cleave rich parts of major cities, create a jurisdictional white flight, avoid funding services for poor people, sap political power from big cities, dissect school districts along racial lines, etc. Good times in America.
No no no don’t you understand, that only happened because Texas had become too reliant on those silly renewable forms of energy and they proved to be completely unreliable.
(Note: My boss finally stopped trying to talk politics with me after telling me the above with a straight face and I just laughed at him and walked away.)
“Corey was always a volunteer, never paid a dime (campaign or official). He will not be advising the Governor in regard to the campaign or official office,” Noem’s communications director Ian Fury said in an email.
Its very odd now wondering if the person you are sitting next to at work is a conplete psycho who eats deworming paste meant for animals and would rather die than take 5 minutes to get a shot.
Zoe Jackman, President Trump’s then-director of the internship program, was known to warn incoming internship classes of being not just “leakers,” but also “liberals” and “liars,” according to two people familiar with the matter.
My 7th grader came home today and with a laugh, told me his social studies teacher showed them a PragerU video. He is well aware of what PragerU is.
He showed me the video and it’s pretty harmless - a lesson about how Israel has done such a good job with its water supply, water conservation, etc. They are studying the Middle East, so it’s a relevant topic. I only detected one or two possibly subtle bits of conservative bullshit in it, but they are so minor, I doubt anyone picked up on them.
Think I should say something to the teacher? Like I said, the content of the video is fine. I looked up the name of the subject matter expert and didn’t find anything bad about him in a minute of Googling. Does seem to be an expert on the world’s water crisis. My concern would be a) is she going to show more PragerU stuff, and b) will kids start looking up PragerU, thinking it’s a valid academic resource.
Yeah I would raise concerns with the teacher about the source and ha e example of their most vile shit and get a read on her whether she’s a deplorable or came across the video innocently.
Kids thinking it’s a valid source of information is a real worry
