They’ve done it before! But always with a Dem executive. They know the public is stupid enough to blame whoever is in the White House so they just start lighting fires everywhere on account of the debt and what have you.
They can shut down the government for like a month and still pay social security and interest on the debt, I think. After that they have to default unless they mint the trillion dollar coin or somehow pass Pelosi’s secret legislative solution.
In the past it’s been clear that neither side actually wants the hostage to get shot and that they’ll eventually work out a deal after a few weeks of theatrics. As it stands now, an actual default is looking like a live possibility.
The real rich people they serve benefit greatly from markets tanking. They can buy everything up cheap and get even richer when the market bounces back.
Republicans would gladly tank the market, easiest win ever in 2018 and 2020.
