GOP Insanity Containment: Beets, Gazpacho, and Lube

LOL property taxes are basically how everything in Texas gets paid for. Everything.

Yeah we looked at Austin and were pretty blown away by the property taxes in good school districts.

Pretty good way to maintain structural inequality in education.

Another Austin treat: being unrealistically aggressive in property valuations. Even in (actually especially in) gentrifying neighborhoods where prices are genuinely spiraling upwards. Banking that you won’t have the wherewithal or capital to challenge them.

Property tax and 8+% sales tax. It’s about as regressive you can get.

Has Cheney indicated if she is seeking reelection? I’m kind of thinking she isn’t.

I’m with you on the sales tax, but I dunno about the property tax. Rich people love owning property and lots of it. Property tax seems like one of the better ways to tax wealth that we actually do.

Is there some feature of the TX property tax that makes it more regressive than it seems.

She’s running for sure and says her race is the most important House race in the nation.

Interesting. I’m not sure how that admission helps her. It’s neutral at best.

I think she sees it as Trump vs. the Republican establishment, not realizing that Trump is now the Republican establishment.

I’m rooting against Liz Cheney in the primary.

I guess. But even if her perception was correct, the establishment in that case doesn’t actually like gay marriage. The ones who aren’t against are more or less indifferent: Not allowing wasn’t that bad. And allowing it isn’t really that important.

No way does Wyoming elect a dem. Better her than some trumptard. They’ll find someone in the Boobert MTG Clade and they will win if they win the primary.

A lot of the property tax on properties owned by rich people is paid by poor people.

There’s no such thing as a good Republican and her existence just gives cover to those who want to toot the bipartisanship horn. I’m fine living in a world where MTG is the most moderate Republican in Congress.

People should be encouraged to shoot their own videos outside of Kelley’s house.

Even to the extent that property owners pay property tax, its the least objectionable tax to rich people. A lot of the muni property taxes fund a budget full of services the rich conservatives want - police to beat up black people, roads to drive their SUVs and trucks on, garbage collection to make their consumer waste go away, etc. Because they can see concrete personal value in the taxes paid, it doesn’t bother them as much as the taxes that go to the federal government where they can fabricate all kinds of nonsense about how those taxes are used.

Well that’s why you implement a robinhood plan and pretend like you redistribute funds to poorer school districts but then do the opposite making it even worse.
