GOP Insanity Containment: Beets, Gazpacho, and Lube

On the other hand, everyone who imagined the worst of the Trump Presidency was right. See you again in 3 and a half years!

Wow it has only been 8 months since the Trump presidency ended; seems like ages ago.

When Pence said he planned to certify the results, the president lashed out. In the Oval Office on Jan. 5, the authors write, Pence told Trump he could not thwart the process, that his role was simply to “open the envelopes.”

I don’t want to be your friend anymore if you don’t do this,” Trump replied, according to the book, later telling his vice president, “You’ve betrayed us. I made you. You were nothing.”

(CNN)Most Americans feel democracy is under attack in this country (56%), according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS, as 51% say it is likely that elected officials in the US will successfully overturn the results of a future election because their party did not win.

Nearly all Americans feel that democracy in the US is at least being tested: 93% total say that democracy is either under attack (56%) or being tested but not under attack (37%). A scant 6% say that American democracy is in no danger.

So far so good, but then…

Republicans are far more likely than Democrats to say that democracy is under attack, and that view is most prevalent among those who support former President Donald Trump. All told, 75% of Republicans say democracy is under attack, compared with 46% of Democrats. Among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, those who say Trump ought to be the leader of the party are much likelier to see democracy as under threat: 79% in that group vs. 51% among those who say Trump should not be the party’s leader.

Outlandish that Democrats are the ones that believe the other party is acting in good faith.

Is the optimal play at this point to simply undermine faith in all of our institutions? Republicans have discovered a hack we simply have no answer for.

Republicans are learning from all this shit like velociraptors testing the fences.

They’re already working on Secretaries of State and election boards in swing states. The next VP of the Trump candidate will be vetted to make sure they thwart democracy when the time comes. They will shore of the military chain of command with loyalist. And finally they need to find some way to twist judges’ arms to bend the law. My guess is they’ll have much more sophisticated fake evidence next time around.

What we need is better independent media. We need what they have with their 10000 radio shows.

90% of Dems still get their media through corporate owned shit.

What’s hilarious is their completely made up reality is a more accepted reality than the actual reality lmao

We’re all dumb for following this shit still.

At this point I’m convinced that any polling that’s not of the “which candidate are you going to vote for” type is just completely worthless. Average Americans simply are not equipped to answer these questions and have not put an ounce of thought into things like the state of American democracy.

You can try to glean some broad strokes information from polling that says, e.g., that most Americans are in favor of higher taxes on the rich or M4A or are against illegal immigration. But all of those terms mean different things to different people and if you asked the questions in a slightly different way you’d get completely different responses, because people by and large do not have coherent worldviews when it comes to government policy.

Apparently there is another Nazi rally at the Capitol on the 18th, I for one an pretty excited to see these people once again suffer absolutely no consequences thereby reinforcing their immunity and encouraging another coup attempt.

Well said summary of what I’ve been trying to put into words for some time.

I hear everywhere on this forum about how policy X is super popular, why don’t Democrats run on it?

Remember when Biden won the SC primary but exit polls showed how popular Medicare For All was? The supposed popularity of Medicare for All was completely irrelevant to how people voted.

This is why many politicians don’t support “popular” things.
