It’s not that Dems are bad at it, it’s that America is bad at it. Something like half the country was on his side, and it was way more animating among deplorables than libs.
I feel similarly about the 1/6 hearings as I did about impeachment. If you can’t decide whether or not something is a good strategic decision, you should just opt for the right decision. (Always expecting people to do the right thing despite the strategic consequences seems unrealistic.) I mean, it seems obvious that there should be a massive investigation into the 1/6 insurrection/riot. If it’s possible that such an investigation might be strategically beneficial, too, all the better.
I mean, “defending a drunk rapist” is a bad look, but “defending violent insurrectionists” isn’t? Come on.
I haven’t seen evidence that this is true. The culture war apparently dominates American politics. If the “healthcare, wages, K.I.S.S.” approach was correct, Bernie would have won the primary and Presidency, and Donald Trump, who delivered no material benefit to like 95% of the country would not have got anywhere near 75 million votes.
That’s true, but the Dems select old dumb people to question people and their questions are so, so bad. They don’t understand it’s all theater either.
But yeah America is trash
The entire Democratic Party and its media apparatus did everything they could to assure voters that the material improvements Bernie promised were unrealistic and could never happen, and they were very successful in pushing the message that Biden had the best chance against Trump. The “healthcare, wages, KISS” electoral strategy is obviously dependent on the party as a whole actually wanting to do those things.
ok, let’s say they selected bernie, and the rest of the outcomes are the same. what does (in your view) prez sanders do about the insurrection or democracy?
“What would have happened if the country had voted for the socialist?” seems like an odd question to be posed by someone named VoteForSocialists.
I’m not sure what you mean when you say what does he do about the insurrection. Like, Congress probably has an inquiry. It’s probably less of a center stage thing because they’d ideally have a real agenda that they’re trying to pass and sell to the public.
WRT “democracy” I would guess that he would place a lot of pressure on Senators to end the filibuster which would allow more robust voting rights legislation. He indicated during the campaign that he’d aggressively pursue his domestic policies through reconciliation, and I think he would likely ignore the parliamentarian’s objections.
I mean all of it is a guessing game, and I have no way of knowing how Joe Manchin behaves during a Bernie presidency. I feel confident we wouldn’t be in like week 12 of trying to negotiate a bipartisan infrastructure bill, but who knows.
Two problems here.
First off, Bernie is a loopy socialist upstart from Vermont, he’s 9,000 years old, the fact that he ran a competitive bid against a Clinton should tell you the DemE guys are really screwing up their messaging.
Two, the Republican voters do actually care about culture war stuff. It’s an asymmetry: they go apeshit over critical race theory and Colin Kapernick and so on. Dems have to actually talk about real-world stuff that affects people.

Edit:
Whistler guy for congress!
Big kudos to the person asking “are you a pedophile?” over and over and over.
Let’s get real, half the people here would be loling if the MAGA chuds had actually gotten to Romney or Pelosi. Your average Joe isn’t losing sleep over poor security in the Capitol.
no, i am not being facetious. i kinda see it as the insurrection part of the discourse would likely be about the same. pelosi would still be trying to hold hearings, republicans would continue to spin the fox news propaganda about incoming communist genocide.
on the economic package, manchin/cinema aren’t going to help bernie any more they are “helping” to biden. i think everyone has been pleasantly surprised by the amount biden asked for initially, even though bernie has basically said he would have asked for even more. maybe he would have stayed firmer in negotiations for a few more weeks than biden, he still wouldn’t have gotten any more than 48+2 votes in the senate.
parlamentarian has nothing to do with it i think. it’s a thing where pelosi/mccarthy/schumer/mcconnell talk amongst themselves.
“aRe YoU tRyInG tO aSsAuLt PeOpLe WiTh AuDiToRy WeApOnS?”
Bernie would be 1000x better on immigration policy, where he could actually do stuff unilaterally.
Was behind a car today with the license plate “GOP 6TH.” At first I thought it could have to do with 1/6, but then I realized, mainly because it wasn’t a new plate, that it was likely a reference to a congressional district.
Wat? How many fucking Captains are there?
Damn I shouldn’t post itt so much.
