If you’re rich there is an amazing lifestyle in places like Sun Valley. Not sure how relevant that is to the data.
Arkansas shocked me.
To be fair, I moved to the Arkansas of Japan, so maybe I shouldn’t be shocked.

If you don’t care about lack of elevation, winters, and culture (with a couple exceptions), Florida isn’t too bad. That said, if AC didn’t exist no one would live there.
Florida is awful except for a few parts; I’ve spent a small amount of time in both Tampa and Winter Park (near Orlando) which both seem livable. I don’t know why any CA republican who wants lower taxes and more like-minded people wouldn’t move to suburban AZ, which is full of deplorables. Maybe our governor isn’t quite Trumpy enough even though he’s a pretty bog standard Repub. Cost of living here is ridiculously low compared to CA. Summers are rough but they’re not any better in Florida and at least no humidity here.
The few moments I spent in Miami, it felt like there was a distinct Cuban-influenced culture. Perhaps that’s one of the exceptions?
Lots of mountains and forests within driving distance. When I lived there I mountain biked nearly every summer weekend and snowboarded every winter weekend. Not near as good as California, but if you’re a nature freak you’re changing out your 1000 sq foot house for a 4000 sq foot house and still being kind of close to any west coast relatives.
That is the one exception. The others are conditional.
Lack of elevation feels like a plus to me.
This is correct. Cubans are going to be overly vulnerable to the anti socialist sentiment that permeates the GOP derposphere while other Latin ethnicities won’t fall for it hook, line and sinker.
Lack of winters can be too, you just have to know what you are getting into. Everywhere is mostly going to look the same until you hit south Florida. Acers and acers of pine farms pretending to be forests until you hit the suburbs, everglades, and\or the blue below.
I’ve done research into moving to Florida, based on the availability of poker. I’ve narrowed it down to “not the panhandle” and “not the Keys”.
What blows my mind is the housing prices just keep going up even with pretty strict underwriting. It is pretty rough to get a jumbo mortgage now, and the prices still just keep going up up up.
This is very good.
A lot of it is tech bros looking for a cheap house for remote work. Big housing boom in Boise for this now that Austin has been getting really expensive.
Most generally, the eastern coasts of large continents have warm currents, which the west coasts have cold currents coming from the poles. Same thing in Mexico, South America, a bit in Southern Africa, Eastern Asia, etc.
It has a lot to do with the continental shelf as well.
Humidity is somewhat determined by this (CA vs FL, yes), but in general is driven also by the land masses, mountains, etc.
If you want to learn about Avocado production, the first episode of Rotten (Netflix) is required viewing. It’s fucked up all the way around.
