GOP Insanity Containment: Beets, Gazpacho, and Lube

My dads friend who was a huge Trumper two years ago just told him he is now a registered Dem and is volunteering for local Dems. We can hope, I guess.

As for the trip, are you a sit on the beach and drink type of guy? I can get you set up for a trip to an all-inclusive that has good Covid protocols. If you’re more adventurous/outdoors/exotic, Iceland is beautiful.

Friend is more adventurous, he always wants to go to developing countries (he went to china in early 00). A stipulation is that it’s gotta be a place where his wife wouldn’t want to go. Was hoping eastern europe. I actually like mix of culture/history/excess drinking and music, so europe works well for me, but i think iceland may be in lead, maybe costa rica. Travel restriction still high in EU. I prefer hanging with locals, so inclusive may not be great, depends where.

I don’t care about covid protocols, cause we’re both getting second shot in a week. But I don’t want to go somewhere without a good vaccine system for its citizens (which may force iceland or UK), as I don’t want to be a crazy vaccinated gringo running around in the midst of a pandemic.

Probably shouldn’t sleep on Rhode Island. How are the strip clubs? Does it have a nice island vibe?

People want to go with a winner. I hope it lasts.

I spent a week in Iceland, mostly Reykjavik. The nightlife is great and does offer opportunity to mix with locals, I remember it’s the only place in the world I’ve ever had a single woman (a local) approach a group of me and two other guys and hit on us. It runs super late though, places start happening at like midnight. There are a couple of daytrips out of Reykjavik (Blue Lagoon and Golden Circle) which are worth doing, but after that you are basically out of things to do during the day unless you go further afield. It’s a really nice city but still small (~200K in the metro area) so not jam packed with activities. Not talking you out of going, I had a blast there, it’s got a bit of an ends of the earth vibe going on, but just so you know.

Thanks, this is kind of what I figured, both for good and ill. However, if EU is still mostly locked down and tens of millions of folks have been vaccinated and going somewhere for the first time in a year, I’m wondering if it might not have a crazy end of covid thing going on in a fairly concentrated way.

South Florida.

Yeah, if someone’s looking for strip-club-type fun right now, Ssouth Florida is probably going to be your best bet. Beautiful women everywhere and like 90% of them are looking for sugar daddies great beaches and there are strip clubs, too.

I want to be excited by this, but my inner pessimism won’t let me believe this is a good thing. It probably means we are getting a party filled with even more upper middle class people that are cool with gay marriage but don’t give a shit about the poor and are completely against any regulations or taxes that would impact their lives.

Oh look, right on cue, it’s a Southern governor blathering about states’ rights. They really never have stopped fighting the Civil War, have they?

Student Survey Doesn’t Support GOP Claims of “Intellectual Diversity” Crisis at Public Universities

Seems like they tried one in S. Dakota and the results didn’t quite match their expectations.

Well, yeah, conservatives are not connected to reality. They argue as if there is a true and essential nature to politics that can be derived through reason without paying attention to the external world. And if the data from that external world contradict what they have logically deduced, then the data is wrong or some undiscovered factor is skewing the data.

You’re giving them too much credit. Very few have logically deduced anything. The “logical deduction” and appeal to reason are just convenient tropes that add a semblance of authoity and moral superiority to their justifications for them basically choosing the political views that affirm their pre-existing views.
