Dream last night. Got on this project in NC with a ā€œsmartā€ chemE. Major Rogan, etc fanboy as soon as got in the car for a multi-hour drive.

I blame our exchange.

Watched a mini documentary on yt that featured Tom Mueller, the former SpaceX engineer. He seems like the real deal. Compared to him Elon is a pure bullshit artist.

Update: this lady is currently leading by a very slim margin with 16 of 19 precincts reporting, but there are 18K votes counted and there are like 12K early votes that are all totally uncounted. I would assume those will lean D. The outstanding precincts probably lean R, but my guess is the early votes will outweigh them.

It looks like the sex thing has definitely hurt her though, last election the incumbent Dem held the seat with 78.5% of the vote.

Republicans are taking it well:

After redistricting, it looks like House district 57 contains none of what was in District 57 in 2021.

But a guy that fucks porn stars and then pays them for silence?

That Iā€™m A-Ok with!

As if being a pornstar is more shameful than being a Republican or politician

I mean, of course? Itā€™s not the sex act. Itā€™s the sexism

yeah. thatā€™s just straight misogyny. pretty easy to reconcile in the republican mind.

I think thereā€™s also a distinction between someone who did some onlyfans work with their spouse and someone who does work with multiple other professional stars in professional settings.

Taking money for having sex on camera? THATā€™S SOCIALIā€¦ wait a minute.

There shouldnā€™t be a distinction imo.

I know nothing about his politics, but shouldnā€™t beshear be the dncs wet dream? Young popular moderate southern governor to win those mythical center right swing voters?

Did she end up winning?

No

Short answer: yes? Slightly longer answer: I think the idea of the political center being a place to pull swing voters from is a bit of a myth. Peopleā€™s overall views donā€™t really align with the spectrum all that well. Centrists are mostly idiots who canā€™t think for themselves and think that taking a middle position somehow means they are reasonable and above the fray. They end up voting 95% with one party most of the time on 1 or 2 issues anyways. You need a candidate who 1) can win a popularity contest (i.e. not Desantis) and 2) someone who speaks to disengaged and unaligned voters on the issues that matter most to them (usually kitchen table economic stuff) and can convince them they are the better choice. IMO Warnock, who I donā€™t agree with 100% on policy, is maybe one candidate I can point to going forward that I think might have a chance in 2028.

Ettingermentum has him as top tier dem prez candidate
