Golf: No Bones, just Bonesaws

Pacific Northwest here. Feels like it’s going to be years before the weather allows some golf again.

Got a push cart for Christmas. Can’t wait to use it in who knows how many months.

Gonna bump this thread back up. Played my first round since the day after thanksgiving here today. Figured if we’re all on lockdown that being out on a golf course is a pretty reasonable place to be. Dropped a 91 which I was pleasantly okay with all things considered. It was 45-50 degrees with constant 15mph wind.

I bought some new irons that I got fitted for during last season over the winter. It’s my first new set of irons in like 15 years. AP3 718s 5-PW. They produced the best numbers at the fitting. And out on the course you can really tell that I’m hitting the ball with a much higher flight than I did previously. While I never struggled with getting the ball in the air I’ve got a pretty flat swing that produces a consistent lower draw but it’s great to know I can flight a 5/6 iron onto a green and let it land somewhat soft.

Hello friends. Tiger and Jim Nantz live chatting on CBS with a rerun of last years Masters.

Not saying I’d pass the opportunity to go to the event or play the course but the Masters is everything I hate about golf (and I love golf). US open > British Open > Masters.

This is great.

If Tiger’s Scotty ever gets to an auction what do we think the value would be? $1M? 10M? More?

So I’m sure this is going to be pretty polarizing for some but I golfed yesterday. No carts so everyone was walking definitely more than 6 feet from one another. No rakes for the traps and no ball washers. The cups were raised about half an inch so you didn’t need to touch the flag or the hole at all. Paid over the phone so there was literally 0 human interaction besides the three guys I played with who all had not left the house in the past week or so like me.

I went 39/45. It’s a hilly ass course so by the 15th hole I was sucking wind from barely excersizng at all over the past few weeks.

You or anyone play with a mask on? What part of the country are you in?

And I haven’t given it any thought, but the precautions with the traps and washers and the cup all seem kinda reasonable actually

CT course. Only state in the tri-state and New England that’s open for golf (maybe RI is?). I did just get an email that the Bethpage courses are opening back up this week though.

I did not play with a mask nor did I see any other golfers that did. The assistant pro had a mask on. Pro shop was closed. So the only real interaction she had was calling groups to the 1st tee, even then no one went within 10 yards of the starter desk. No scorecards or pencils available either. Overall felt very thoughtful and safe.

I’m still playing in MN, not wearing a mask while I play. Courses opened up 1.5 weeks ago and there are no ball washers, no rakes in the bunkers, holes are modified so the ball can’t go in them, 1 person per cart, 2 carts max per foursome. Pay over the phone or online, courses are slammed it’s kind of absurd, you need to make tee times like 3+ days out even at regular munis.

I think golf with all the restrictions, closed clubhouse, online prepay, etc. is fine. Think the reason lots of places closed the courses anyway is it’s an out of touch “let them eat cake” situation for governments to allow a well-to-do demographic be out there enjoying themselves while much more important businesses are shutdown and most people can’t do the activities they enjoy.

It’s like that here too but I won’t be golfing til this is over. Doesn’t sound very fun to me and I hate packed courses.

Courses reopened today in Washington State. I’m playing Friday and Saturday. Courses are limited to twosomes only, and can’t share a cart. No indoor services.

My risk tolerance is low, but I think walking the course with a coworker and staying away from each other 10 feet is tolerable.

My partner for Saturday is my 7 year old daughter. I’m hoping we make it 9 holes before she wants to quit. She likes to play, but she really likes driving the cart but I bought her a pull cart and we’re walking.

Reminder this is Sunday.

I broke and have forayed onto the golf course and most people are practicing social distancing - it’s one to a cart, carts are (supposed to be) sanitized, cant take the flagstick out and the cups are filled with foam and you just make a judgment call as to whether the ball went in or not (ldo it did, count it!)

Most people did not wear masks unless they were inside the pro shop but only one was allowed inside at a time and you form a line outside 6 feet apart. I wore a mask most of the day and kept hand sanitizer in the cart for every time I had to touch something I didnt own, which was surprisingly infrequent other than the wheel. I had wipes for the golf cart steering wheel.

All in all felt like a safer experience than the grocery store.

Excited for this tomorrow. Hopefully banter will be better than last time. Last week I liked Rory’s shit talking. I’ve followed him a bunch in person for events I’ve been to and he seems like an uber competive dude to play with vs DJ’s apathy to being there.

Played 18 today. First time I’ve taken a cart this year and damn it felt like I didn’t even play because my legs were so strong at the end. Course had all the above-described precautions though I did see a cart girl went out after we had finished. Not sure how the distancing works with that.

Grabbed a pic of the storms that we thought might stop our round but they never came. This was a short 330 yard downhill hole that I hit my hybrid to a 100 yards then proceed to just nick the top of that tree guarding the front of the already shallow green dropping straight into the sand. bladded sand shot, drop, chip, two putts

Idk if I could have thought of a more boring golfer to get as a side line announcer than JT. Even Speeeef could bring some color commentary

I hate everything about the Patriots and TB but holy balls about that hole out from Brady.
