He’s played two Web.com events and missed the cut both times, but he shot 74-74 and 71-86. His handicap is probably legit, but it definitely didn’t look like it yesterday. He was a little loose at the top of the backswing, but he’s got a great swing and tour level distance.
If he retires from basketball before he’s 40, he could take a run at making the tour. He’s probably nearing Tony Romo levels.

I mean Phil is like the best golf gambler on tour, and the GOAT at getting inside people’s heads. On the hole Steph hit it too long into the water, Phil told him it was safe to hit driver cause he couldn’t get there lol…
Phil hit driver on one just to show off and get inside their head a little bit, they gave them that long putt to make themselves two-putt and get inside their heads.
But Phil really is the GOAT golf gambler on tour, and getting Charles on the forward tees so he could put middle irons in the fairways and let Phil hit approaches was beautiful strategy. And getting him to shorten up his backswing to the hitch point was genius.
The reason for the hitch was mechanical as much as mental. Chuck would drop his upper body down and get the club into a slot where he’d just be slamming it into the ground. Most people would lift up from there without stopping the swing, and try to time it right. Chuck just short circuited and had the hitch. But the short backswing keeps him from getting into that bad position.
By the way, it’s a shame Mickelson has never taken to poker, cause he’s such a gambler. On their shots at holes in one on the par-3 for a million to charity, when he liked his line he went “That has action!”

Brag: Forgot my wallet at home but apparently I’m such a regular at our local course that the pro let me go out for free.
Beat: It appears we’re going to get a decent amount of snow tomorrow so he said today was likely the last day the course would be open for the year.
