Should have added the shovel and Louisville Slugger tin cup ![]()
just think of the movie, guy kinda sucks at golf, plays this stupid game, realizes he’s a god at putting as long as he’s using an iron instead of a putter so never uses a putter again, eventually makes the pga tour, somehow has an advantage over the field because he can use some iron/wood hybrid club that nobody else has room in the bag for, or did we just get the plot of happy gilmore 2.
1.5 weeks ago, we had our club championship and I think the longest putt I made in 2 days was 6 ft.
This is inspiring.
It feels like pretty much only phil mickelson could have a video of one hour of chipping and title it with part 1. or maybe something else is episode 2, I don’t know
old days this is a dvd of SECRETS OF CHIPPING or something for some stupid amount
he knows what he is talking about. this is one of the only parts of my game im good at, 30 yards and in and especially chipping. the ability to get close from this distance and have 1 or 2 putts or even dunk it sometimes will make horrific days low 90’s instead of 110+
i use a cleveland cbx v1 wedge at 54.5 and you really just do put your weight forward and swing with no wrists as much as you can and it stops close to where you want with like 50/50 roll carry ratio. i rarely use my 60 degree for chipping but basically everyone i know that sucks at chipping does. i try to use putter when i can off the green.
my only thing with phil is i think he encourages people to overthink. chipping is all about feel and confidence
Never tried that style sounds fun. I can imagine the terror of hitting into a deep greenside bunker if your next clubs are gonna be 5i 4i hybrid, 3w, dr.
We used to do occasional 3 club only events which were fun. I’s not that hard to putt with a bladed wedge or short iron. I could never do it with a fairway wood or hybrid cause I can’t control the hot face well enough but other guys could putt pretty well with those.
Always fun to see which 3 clubs each guy would pick and how that would play out.
There’s definitely some strategy and imagining how the next hole or 2 is likely to play out as you choose clubs. I never got in too much of bind. The worst bind for me was getting to a par 4 with only 5 iron, 7 iron, pw, left to choose from, but it was still reachable.
But I’m not sure I’d recommend this format as it did become a giant clusterfuck trying to remember which clubs you had left to use. We had a 75 year old in our group and we had to resort to writing his down on paper because he was hopeless at remembering.
If you think Phil’s approach to chipping is overly cerebral, I’m begging you to not go searching for those TaylorMade Tiger Woods chipping videos. In which he literally talks about “hooking” and “slicing” his chips.
The thing that made the biggest difference in my chipping, and that made it be some the most consistent part of my game, was essentially this. The one difference is that I use the exact same stroke and simply change the club dependingnon the distance I’m trying to hit. I basically get my arms set over the ball with my weight forward and then take my arms from pocket to pocket. Ft hen I just figure out how far I hit it with each club. I usually only use lob/sand/gap sometimes I’ll need a P or 9, but it takes so much of the thought out of it. I do get a lot of comments from guys asking why I chip with my lob wedge so much because I’m so confident with it I use it in a ton of spots where most guys are just putting from the fringe.

Hilarious golf fight
Apparently the bang bang guy is a former NHL player. Relevant info before you charge at someone.
Virus? More likely COPD.
Nah 29 year olds don’t have copd
Never heard of her.
Upon googling, it was really surprising seeing photos of her smoking and she claimed to wake up sick, vomit, run a personal record 5k, then shoot a 3rd round 68, earlier this year. Wonder if something more is going on there.
You mistake me for someone making a serious comment.
The Open has begun.
Got a Jon Rahm or Tyrell Hatton kind of feeling about this one.
Weird first day. No one went low, very few shot themselves out of it. Nearly 100 guys within 6 shots.
