He left an very important putt 30 inches short. Which, it’s not possible to make putts you dont get to the hole but hey don’t let me change your minds. Super super smart to just not even give it a chance there. LOL
Did it matter in this timeline? NO. In the 99% of timelines where Jay Jay didn’t drain a 75 foot putt it matters and you guys want to act like just lagging it in was the right call lol. Just terrible.
if by 99% you mean 10% then sure. 90% of the time he’s going to a playoff here at the worst, and he’s just winning outright a huge chunk of the time.

The dude still 2 putts just as often if he is 2.5 feet past. My god those or you arguing Bob laying up a putt as a good thing have totally lost the plot. Very good chance he never in his life makes a more consequential golf stroke. Torching even single digit win equity there is terrible.
he absolutely deserved to win after that brutal flag pole kick on 2. bouncing back from that mentally is crazy. lots of senior pros unraveled mentally this week. fun tournament, funny to see meltdowns so often
I have some news for you. They don’t hit it the exact distance they want on every putt. They’re on lightning fast greens. 2.5 feet on that length putt isn’t much at all.
He’s a probably a favorite to win with a par there, and pga make % from 30 ft is 7%, probably less on those greens.

Dude, not a single person here thought that he was laying up there nor did MacIntyre himself think he was laying up. If you look at his reaction after the putt it’s one of disappointment and he even makes an arm motion like he thought it would release more off the hill.
Some putts are just hard to read and 95% of pros will leave them short or he got tight b/c he knew it was a big putt and left it short, it happens.

I didn’t think he laid up but like golfers leave putts short all the time in moments like that but it’s just stupid to criticize it. oh god he missed a 30 ft putt or whatever it was, I didn’t think he’d make it regardless. 18 was playing at a bogey on average.
Looks to me like he knew he tightened up and didn’t get enough on it and was disappointed in himself. I don’t think he intentionally lagged it but I also remember DJ on the 72nd at Chambers Bay and wouldn’t blame him. Based on the way the day had gone and what he probably knew about the leaderboard at that moment everyone was moving backward and he was tied for the lead.
Nothing wrong with Bobby Mac’s lag putt. If you know it’s for the win or a playoff, that’s one thing.
As it was, JJ had to make an unlikely birdie on a putt he’s statistically more likely to 3-putt (in pouring rain and with all the pressure of a major final putt no less) for the outright win.

I had my most absurd 9 holes of golf ever yesterday. Our league had a make up day, so some of us decided to play a money game where you had to cycle through every club in your bag before you could reuse any club, including your putter.
First hole I played normal, and left a birdie putt with my putter 2 inches short dead in. 2nd hole I make a 12 foot birdie putt with an 8 iron. 3rd hole I make a 30 foot birdie putt with a 6 iron. 4th hole I make a nice long 2 putt with 7 iron and 58 degree. 5th hole I make a 5 foot birdie putt with my putter. 6th hole I make a 30 foot birdie putt with my 5 iron. At this point I’m -4 through 6. I caught one bogey coming in to shoot 33. It was truly ridiculous.
