Oof, those are some pretty iconic themes for just a play-in. Should be a fun competition
I don’t think I’ve ever watched a second of Green Acres, but the theme still pops in my head randomly every now and then.

My dad recorded every Perry Mason episode onto VHS, so in his honor, the show gets my vote.
I don’t even know how it’s a comparison. In high school, I would go home for lunch and watch that. Never saw a beginning or end but always knew he won. It was such a great show. Props to your dad.
So I was giving a listen to some of the songs on nunnehi’s list for possible play-ins and found that some folks didn’t put forth a particularly high view count version of their nominees. Matlock and Rawhide are now solidly in. Miami Vice is now not just in but a very high seed. The Addams Family is now no longer at risk of falling out but also a high seed.
I agree with nunnehi that Get Smart should get a play-in. I’ll post that next. I also think that Dragnet and The Wire Season 1 (should it fall out) should get play-ins, but they need someone to agree with me.
PLAY-IN Vote:
#127 overall: Star Trek: TOS
vs.
UNRANKED Get Smart
Agree with both of your play-in impulses (Dragnet and Wire S1).
Another problem is some of these vids have some filler before they actually get to the song. For example, the highlander theme is straight fire, but it doesn’t actually start until way into the vid that risky posted. In cases like this, it might help to add a note like “start at 0:55” (which is what one should do for The Highlander).
OK, if you want to add some notes to the spreadsheet about this, that’s cool. I won’t be able to keep track of it all.
PLAY-IN Vote for #126:
The Wire, Season 1
vs.
The Young and the Restless
PLAY-IN Vote:
#125 overall: Alfred Hitchcock Presents
vs.
UNRANKED Dragnet
Possibly lukewarm take: Wire season one is not the best version of that theme song.
Jesus if the play-ins are this tough the actual bracket is going to get crazy. Hitchcock and Dragnet are both iconic.
I’d personally like a reseed there with having those go against The Wire and Y&R
Obviously each person’s criteria are going to be different, but while The Wire is the better show and its theme is the better standalone song, imo Y&R is the better TV theme and it is not even close.
Hawaii-5-0 is winning or I’m gonna burn this whole place down.
criteria for what? not sure what we’re voting on. best song of the pair? most iconic? what would you rather listen to? most nostalgic for?
please to answer bc I keep voting for losers, so clearly none of you knows either
I think that is a different recording of the same song from Hitchcock Presents
The version used in the show is squeakier and kinda out of tune (I guess on purpose)
There are multiple versions of the show. It was redone for The Alfred Hitchcock Hour and if there’s a high view count of that one it’s maybe better.
The 1985 version with timpani vamp is the best version but I couldn’t find it.
That’s what I’m saying, it’s impossible to establish objective criteria. For me, lasting cultural relevance/familiarity is a big piece of the pie. Only fans of The Wire could identify that song, I think most people know the Y&R theme is a soap-opera music even if they can’t directly tie it to Y&R.
I listened to a few versions. The ones that just have a static picture seem more likely to be taking the audio from a recording other than the show. The theme song is a piece of classical music in the public domain, so there are lots of recordings.
