GOAT Sandwich Tourney! (no actual goats were harmed)

Heh so did I. Has to be the same place. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t all just traditional grilled cheese. There were always toppings along with it.

Allegedly!

Lan Viet

The Le family started Lan Viet Market downtown in 2010 with the desire to bring a part of our culture to our community. The family opened at North Market Bridge Park in 2020 to continue the tradition. From steaming noodle soup (pho), crispy sandwiches (banh mi), refreshing spring rolls, to sizzling noodle and rice bowls; we serve authentic and delicious food that is inspired by the culture and the history of Vietnam. Our food is made to order from the freshest ingredients and has the perfect combination of savory, sweet, and spicy. Come try out a piece of our culture!

Lots of sandwiches will suck if the ingredients suck. I’m not sure there’s a particular issue with banh mi.

The place I went was just a Vietnamese sandwich shop in Wichita during Covid. Sandwiches were $3.50, so I got two figuring they were small.

Bread was okay, but the combo of the vegetables and meat was so good.

Shops here in KC are of comparible quality, but they charge $8.

This banh mi discussion led me to consider a GOAT Soups Tourney.

lol Americans. Beef and/or cheese in bread.

Wasn’t there a couple of posts calling for a GOAT pie tourney?

If we’re willing to do concurrent tourneys, I’ll start one. Or wait until sandwich is done.

The best ever grilled cheese vs a mediocre pulled pork; maybe a closer one.

The best pulled pork vs ANY grilled cheese, it’s not even close.

Thread was making me hungry:

Grilled pork with some very potent jalapeños .

I like the sliced jalapeño. Looks good!
Condiment?
I’d be tempted to throw some chili crisp at that - mainly cos I just bought a couple big jars.

Some kind of mayo.

It’s very good. I wouldn’t add anything.

2 completely separate pie contests.

  • savoury
  • sweet.

Fuck that. Cherry and chicken pot pie should go mano a mano.

I’d do sweet.

Someone else can do savory. I don’t have enough experience there.

Yeah, same. Except I don’t have a clear story of how I got to be that way.

The one exception for me is fried rice. Even that I prefer without egg, but I can eat that and actually enjoy it if I’m not thinking about it too much.

I love a good Banh Mi. There are so many bad ones around, I can understand people getting the wrong idea (like @spidercrab ). Even I’m scared to order one at a new place unless I have a strong recommendation, because I’m a huge favorite to be disappointed.
