Ham & cheese winning over grilled cheese would have felt weird. Pulled pork over BLT was really a test of everyday good vs. rare special treat. Rare special treat won out.

Our two biggest winners of round 3 go head to head.
F the French dip!
I am firmly in the camp of #theyareallgoodsandwiches, but following along in the voting I can tell that I favor balance (fat vs acid, sweet vs salty, etc.) more than other voters. I love a grilled cheese sandwhich of course, but it’s basically one note - there’s nothing to cut the richess of the creamy cheese. In my mind something like a banh mi with complimentary notes (rich meat vs. tangy veggies, soft bread vs. crunchy veg, etc.) is something I enjoy a lot more.
lol @ grilled cheese making it this far
Grilled cheese is great, but I’m not ordering one while eating out.
I went to a grilled cheese bar once while in Washington DC. Loved it.
Banh Mi is an elite sandwich. The combo of fatty meat and super fresh veggies nails it every time.
Grilled cheese is amazing as long as it comes with thinly sliced ribeye steak, bacon and eggs, or ground beef pressed into a patty.
I had my first bahn mi as a result of the OOT sandwich tourney.
Grilled cheese quality covers a wide range depending on the ingredients.
I’m stuck on grilled cheese vs. pulled pork.
Leaning toward grilled cheese simply because my first instinct is “goddamn, I could go for a grilled cheese.” I have to be more in the mood for pulled pork, but I can always go for a grilled cheese sandwich.
ATL-area peeps: pulled pork on Texas toast at Williamson Bros. BBQ
EDIT: My version of grilled cheese in my head is the basic variety. No frills. Butter the outside of the bread, three slices of American cheese. Obviously you can add stuff, but that’s what I’m voting on (I once added a dollop of nacho cheese in the middle and it was great).
EDIT 2: I went with grilled cheese. Had to go with my gut.
Meatball subs are fine, but they aren’t good enough to be worth the mess and, in turn, effort of eating. They always end up as a meatball on a sliver of soggy bread.
If I voted fried chicken sandwich would meatball have beaten it? I feel like I messed up and want to use my one free Time Machine access to right it.
And? Whats with the cliffhanger?
Loved it.
I’ve only had a banh mi once and it was gross, so I’ll never know whether it was a bad representative or a perfect representative of a bad sandwich because I’m never buying one again.
That’s a feature omnomnom
Was it from a genuine vietnamese restaurant?
Even if the cilantro wasn’t immediately disqualifying, which it is, the bread for a banh mi needs to be fresh, which it often isn’t.
