I need a break from all the political shit, so I quit following all the threads involving politics. Now I’m down to just a couple of threads and need something to occupy some time here. This topic was brought up in the sandwich tourney so I’ll start this.
Nominate your favorite dessert pies here and include your top four seeds. No savory pies. That might make for a good topic, but I don’t feel they belong in this thread. Depending on how many we get, I’ll set up the tourney to fit the numbers.
I’ll throw out some to start:
Apple
Cherry
Peach
Pecan
Pumpkin
Boston cream
Lemon meringue
Top seeds:
Apple
Cherry
Pumpkin
Pecan
*I’m going to define a pie as having a pastry crust with a filling. If you have an argument for something not in that description, I’ll consider it.
I don’t know how deep you’re going, but if you’re looking for filling out the bracket, I’ll nominate mince meat pie, which I’ve seen described as “a sweet pie that is filled with a mixture of spiced fruits and suet traditionally served during the Christmas season.”
When I was a kid, I had it once and said I liked it, and as a consequence EVERY YEAR at Thanksgiving and Christmas for the next 15 years, my parents were like, “And don’t forget we need to have spidercrab’s favorite mince meat pie”, and I’ve got to say I never really liked it that much.
My fave is homemade apple pie. Not sure what a savory pie is, but if French Silk isn’t, then I’d like to nominate that
fwiw, I also consider cheesecake as more of a pie than cake. It has a crust. Cakes do not. If you accept cheesecake then I’d like to nominate strawberry cheesecake
Meh, most of the cheesecakes I’ve seen don’t have crusts and are taller than a traditional pie tin. There is also the name, we didn’t let breakfast burritos into the sandwich competition.
Think of a savory meat sauce like a chunky sloppy joe encased in a pie crust like an empanada or pasty. We are worse off as a country that we developed cheese burgers instead of savory hand-pies…
