Feature requests

I’d rather have these displayed personally, it’d be cool if it was an option, but what really guilt trips me is the little statistic for number of hours spent reading on the site. I know at some point I’m going to look at that and be like, “Holy crap I spend a ton of time on there!”

It’ll probably be good for me in the long run, because I’ll likely end up trying to keep it to a more reasonable amount of time… but that’s not necessarily good for the site if we all start doing that.

Somebody else mentioned this too. I think (but not positive yet) that I can change it. I’ll try to tackle this tonight.

You can just click the speech bubble thing in the reply screen and it’ll quote everything, no need to highlight text.

Just in case you ever go back and want localized time.

+1 to fixing the display of tweets.

Going back to beetlejuice’s quote thing, I think the only option to keep everybody happy would be an option under the user’s profile for “always quote when replying” that could be turned on or off. No idea if this is remotely possible.

I agree with this. I strongly prefer the timestamp, but I wouldn’t worry about it if it is a difficult fix. I think if could be fixed in under 1 hour, then it’s probably worth it. Otherwise, I’m sure there are more important issues to address.

Attempting to link to zikzak’s post about edit times in the Help Desk thread. Ignore everything after “community wants” since it’s about something completely unrelated to edit time.

Couple of questions regarding features that may already exist, but if they don’t then they should

  1. Is multiquoting possible.
  2. When I use the bubble button to quote, it quotes the post AND whatever was quoted in that post. On 2+2 it didn’t do that. Is there a way to have that kind of post quoting ability here (i.e., just new content and not prior quotes).

Thanks, greg

The double scrollbar is annoying. imo.

Cool.

I’d like a “World’s Greatest Poster” undertitle.

But seriously can we please have a post count for users?

Yeah, there’s a lot we theoretically can do, but some things are a lot more work than others and I’m still running around trying to take care of higher urgency issues. To give a general idea, in ascending order of difficulty these are the things that can be done:

Configure software settings from the client
Install themes and theme components
Install plugins*
Create custom themes with CSS (what oreo’s been doing)
Create custom themes with template files (and moar CSS)
Create custom plugins
Fork the code and create custom forum software

If there isn’t already a theme component or plugin available, things like changing the timestamp and adding post counts are probably going to require working with template files. I can do that, but I’m not going to be able to get to that stuff right away.

*Installing plugins would actually be kind of a pain in the ass right now because it would break the SSL on the www subdomain. Fixing those sorts of issues are where most of my focus is right now.

Also, installing plugins will take the site down for ~20 minutes, so it’s not something we want to do frequently.

You can also see post counts on the user page.

testing edit window and what happens when I edit this post as a regular user
2 minutes later, any sign I edited? and 9 min later. 11 min

After 600 seconds it shows that ir’s been edited once, so you have 600 seconds to ninja edit.
Now if should show 2. hmmm, stil just shows 1 no matter how many times I’ve edited it, but if you hover you see the time of the last edit

Nope

I already know who I like so don’t need posting stats. Also fine with the time the way it’s done. Actually prefer it tbh.

I do like knowing who’s online.

stalker alert

Is there a way to hide real names people may have entered? I was browsing the user list and noticed quite a few people have first and last names in there and I imagine they didn’t know they’d be publicly displayed.

FFS people, do not give out your real personal info to Internet forums.

I think that’s just the Name field, which is optional. Most people have nothing in that field, some people have put a nickname and some have put what might be their real name - but it says “optional” right where you enter it.

So, any user can change that if they want.
