Fall LC thread

You all are making this very hard for her. When teaching someone how to pronounce something, just spell it. This is how I would do it for any accent I would try to pick up.

For language: Lanegwidge or lanegwudge said quickly

Laneguage sounds really odd. But then I remember a lot of Americans pronounce ‘shone’ to rhyme with ‘stone’ instead of ‘gone’.

I hope you all realize what a massive failure any written language system is if it doesn’t tell you how to pronounce the words.

wrong!

lanegwidge?

lan like plan, ran, ban

In parts of New Jersey the whole word rhymes with “sangwhich” e.g.:

compare to “language” here

It‘s especially true for English as it uses the same spelling system for words from Anglo-Saxon, Danish, medieval Norman French, modern French and some additional minor influeces.
The History of English Podcast is a great resource for more information on this.

Also I assume everyone who claims there is a diphthong in the first syllable of „language“ is trolling.

The English language is a hot mess anyway, pronounce things however you like, no one cares.

This, pretty much, everyone points and laughs at accents. See: John Oliver

You could watch any of this guy’s videos for insight on how to teach someone to speak a language, but this is one of his most entertaining.

Handed to them by their parents ldo

Some people just use them so they don’t get yelled at by their ISP for downloading torrents. Or so I’ve heard.

I would classify that under privacy.

Some people use them so that their gimmick accounts can’t be linked to their main account with an IP check. Or so I’ve heard.
