Lauer was PUA before it was cool.
Don’t mess with him he’s in set!

That’s interesting, hadn’t thought of it that way. I was just thinking of things I support that he opposes that would embarrass him to wear a shirt for. Anyone else feel the same way as JT here?
I don’t see it any different than having a Giant fan wear a Jets jersey. Just because he feels that’s embarrassing doesn’t make it so.
Agree with Louis. It’s the same standard as standup comedy. You’re ridiculing the bigot, not the gay person.
Can one of you limeys translate all this football wife drama stuff? Maybe put it in context of the Kardashians or something so I can understand.
Wife #1 had private Instagram stuff leaked to tabloids, suspected wife #2, restricted her Instagram to literally one person, #2, stuff kept getting leaked to tabloids, today outed her on twitter.
Possible hot take: the impractical jokers suck and neither they nor what they do is funny or clever or watchable
I’ve never watched it. From the commercials I can tell it’s horribad.
So many times irl I’ve had someone tell me I’m funny and ask if I watch the show (or some similar phrasing how they like comedy and bring up that show as an example).
It seemed pretty menacing (but even toned), as she wasn’t cooperative in the interview from what I could tell or he thought she was too flighty. No way I’d remember who she is to try to find it.
I know you’ve never seen the movie.
Duvall’s character, Tom Hagen, is a mick.
After law school, Hagen goes to work in the Corleone “family business”. His non-Italian ancestry precludes his formal membership in the mafia family, but when the consigliere Genco Abbandando dies, Hagen is given his position. Consequently, the other New York families deride the Corleones as “The Irish Gang”.
You make a fair distinction. Intent certainly doesn’t shield from effect, and I think a defining variable here is the person involved. A comedian would be ridiculing the bigots, but here, the bigot would be using a pro-LGBT symbol to diminish the power of that symbol.
The petty part of me wants him to suffer so that he’s compelled to change, but lol at ever making someone feel bad enough for them to make better decisions. It just makes things worse.

Well I get that - but what is the significance of these two people? Is it like Kim Kardashian vs. Snooki or something?
They got you talkin right?

There are two very different kinds of purity testing on the left. One is where Ted Lieu may spit pure fire against Trump and be a perfectly loyal Democrat, but co-sponsoring a bill to put people in prison for supporting BDS is an impurity. The other is something like Michael Moore is a POS because he went on the Joe Rogan podcast. I have pretty strong feelings about which of these is actually bad.
I just hope and pray that the master list of people and programs which are somewhat problematic is completed by the time the seas are boiling and poor people are being used as fuel for biogenic energy production.

Funniest show on tv calls for your instant ban.
It doesn’t matter what I think about it so much. The question is what would someone who has struggled with being ashamed of by others, perhaps their families, and ashamed of themselves their whole lives, endured comments, hidden their true selves and finally embraced that they are okay think about it? It’s not a sports team or political affiliation. I mean it is quite literally a movement that says that not only is it okay to be gay it is something you are even allowed to be proud of after living in the shadows.
I’m sure that there are people who fit the above example that would have no issue with it. Maybe even applaud it. But I submit is it perfectly fine to err on the side of caution when it comes to creating situations that cause trauma for marginalized groups.
Like, what is the outcome here. The guy wears it to a session and gets a lot of attention, good natured ribbing and such. Maybe it gets a little over the top if the dude is the kind who deserves it. But to a bystander who has had to endure that shit in a less than good natured way, or the family member of someone who has, why are they being subjected to it?
And @RiskyFlush, I can see your point but there are two distinctions. One is, this is not a comedy club where people are (or should be) expecting that kind of interaction. Two is intent does not shield effect. I know people who would, regardless of how sensitive anyone here judges them to be, would have their evening stained by something like this if they came across it in a random public place. It’s up to anyone what they do with that information, I just want to offer the option to consider it as a dude who never had to worry about it myself.
Yeah that’s fair, it’s a good point. I’ll take that option off the table in any future negotiations. My offer to let him out for $100 and the t-shirt expired tonight, he passed.
He actually seems more interested in making additional Hillary-related wagers. Possibilities include: even money Hillary vs. Warren for the nomination - someone else wins it’s no action, even money Hillary enters race or not by some of the early filing deadlines, even money on Hillary “competing” which he thinks she’ll do but can’t quite define (I suggested a number of delegates won, but he doesn’t understand that process and didn’t bite)… Maybe that could be defined by if she wins a state or something.
There might be some opportunities to make future bets in which I punish him for his conspiracy theories, the problem is the outcome must be able to be mutually defined - like the outcome of an election or whether someone is charged by a certain date. Otherwise, he’ll just buy whatever his favorite conspiracy theory site is peddling.
A comedian would be ridiculing the bigots, but here, the bigot would be using a pro-LGBT symbol to diminish the power of that symbol.
Yeah, here I’m ridiculing a bigot but the bigot is likely to make homophobic comments to “shield” himself from the embarrassment he feels wearing the shirt, and he’s likely to get called anti-gay slurs by third parties ridiculing him, and that could all offend an innocent bystander.
The petty part of me wants him to suffer so that he’s compelled to change, but lol at ever making someone feel bad enough for them to make better decisions. It just makes things worse.
Yeah he’s never changing. The depth of his conspiracy theory beliefs is frightening.
Look, in the end my goal is not to scold. It’s worth thinking and taking about. Part of privilege is you only have to think about it when you decide to, or are asked to.
Yeah, and part of it is that even when your heart is in the right place, sometimes something like this won’t even cross your mind because you’re just not coming at it from that perspective or thinking about how random bystanders will interpret it. I’m glad you pointed this one out, thanks!
Those were both good posts, and you are both good posters.
A feud between Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy, the wives of noted English soccer stars, is playing out in the public sphere.

I still think Brexit is dumb and a terrible mistake for the U.K., but honestly after seeing all the shit with China this week I can at least understand the sentiment, misguided though it may be. To wit:
US company Apple kowtowing to China
https://apple.news/ACOUw-gWORjCd_kQcuZ3uLQ
US company NBA kowtowing to China while mealy mouthed owner pretends otherwise
A Houston Rockets executive's tweet supporting the anti-government protesters in Hong Kong caused a seemingly irrational amount of rage in China, a key market for the National Basketball Assn. Rather than punish the executive, the league defended...
US company Activision Blizzard kowtowing to China
American video game company Blizzard Entertainment is under fire from the global gaming community after it banned a Hong Kong player who called for a political “revolution” in the city.
Man these aren’t tiny little startups covering their asses because their venture capital nut might dry up otherwise. They are GIANTS in their respective industries. Only the NFL, MLB and EPL have more revenues than the NBA. Apple is either 1 or 2 in market cap depending on the day. Blizzard is third in gaming revenue last I looked. These are American companies which ostensibly represent American values, and they’re twisting themselves into knots and shitting all over those values so as to stay in the good graces of what is still a brutal Communist regime, no matter how much the Chinese spit and polish their image.
So to me it raises a fundamental question: When a foreign county controls as much of the means of production as China does vis a vis the US, is there any hope to maintain sovereignty long term? I have my doubts, truly.
