No Thanksgiving thread?
There were 11 people at the dinner last night. Turns out one was a Trumper, but only 2 people knew that and after the Trumper left (he and his boyfriend (yes, he’s a gay Trumper) were the first to leave) the hostess told us all. It was sheer chance that we missed out on a row about it as apparently he gets into sometimes. He was from out of state (NV), so no Californian Trumpers.
The only hard feelings from politics were after the Trumper left there was a discussion where someone said they had compared Trump to Castro when trying to convince some Cuban exiles how much Trump sucks. Microdaughter did not jump in and argue at the time, but was truly offended on Castro’s behalf.
Thank you
That video makes me really, really wish we lived up to the ideals the early American propaganda was centered around.
I’ve been dating a new girl for a few months and spent the day with her family, obviously the first time meeting them. From long Island. I’m not sure I’ve come across a more openly racist group of people; even her 19yo sister was getting into the act. Just constant comments all day while watching football:
- “only the white players have their hands on their heart for the anthem”
- “I used to think kaepernik was cute until he did his thing”
- a handful of “thugs” and “ghetto” references
- “Obama was racist because he never talked about his white side, only his black side”
- criticizing Warrick Dunn for providing (literally hundreds of) homes to poor single mothers (black, obv) rather than homeless vets
Her mother even stood for the anthem with her hand over her heart for one of the games.
I bit my tongue for most of it, but at one point the gf and I took a walk to take the trash out and I made a comment and she was just like “yea…”
I’m smiling imaging legions of MAGA chuds across America leaping to attention in their own homes.
No Trumpers at our small gathering of friends and family. And for that I’m very thankful.
I really feel for those who have to deal with deplorable loved ones. I honestly don’t know how I would handle it.
Why is that hard? I think it’s a good thing your dad has come around in issues. It probably has a lot to do with you arguing with him over the years.
Sincerely asking.

I suspect you have influenced him more than you realize. Possibly more than he even realizes.
I also know I could be 100% incorrect about this.
my 84yo mom was never overly political. Guess she’s coming to terms with the privilege throughout her life. Now she’s reading about the Great Migration. Never too late.
And our power went out Thanksgiving morning. Luckily, brother decided on cooked whole turkey. Warmed it on the propane grill. Surprisingly good.
Pretty fucked up that Italian Nazis are using the US flag in their imagery.
