Fall LC thread

It can be if you’re not a candidate, but that’s true of any surgery. You’ll find lots of people who had gastric bypass surgery who shouldn’t have and are complaining that it ruined their life.

The important thing is to find a reputable surgeon who’ll perform a thorough eye exam and tell you if you can have the surgery or not. I remember that I wasn’t a candidate for regular LASIK when I had the exam done – there are three factors they use to judge who can have the surgery (I know corneal thickness is one, I can’t remember the others) and I flunked on all three.

I found out that I was a candidate for wavefront LASIK and had it done in 2011, I don’t regret it for a second.

In a rare piece of good news, an Australian academic’s bid to singlehandedly destroy Ireland’s naturalisation process has finally failed. Cliffs:

• Since 1956, the residence requirements for naturalisation have included “one year’s continuous residence in the State” immediately prior to application

• Ministerial discretion permitting absences of up to six weeks (longer with a good excuse) has been the policy since forever

• Professor Boganface or whatever applies, having been absent for ~100 days in the year prior, 3 (three, that is, two plus one) days’ absence required for his work and 97 (ninety-seven, that is, more than three months) just holidays, just general gallivanting

• Application refused, sorry bud, try again next year

• Aw bloomin’ Ada, I’m not having that, strewth mate, gonna lodge a High Court challenge fair dinkum!

• Case does not simply fail, the judge in fact asserts there is no legislative basis for any Ministerial discretion whatsoever, thereby wrecking the fucking gaff for just about everyone

Naturalisation applications have been on a go-slow since that decision. No naturalisation ceremonies have been held since May. All private and public services dealing with naturalisation and those who want to undergo it have been advising people since then to hold off on applying - a day trip to Belfast in the last year would be disqualifying. It’s going to be an absolute nightmare rush, now, all thanks to this complete asshole. I hope the legal team bilked the shit out of him.

Stefanik’s re-election chances have probably gone way down in just the last 24 hours. It’s not going to get better for her from here forward. Imagine being a Trump slappy in New York where he’s actually murdering your constituents in taking away your property tax deductions. I guess it will be a victory if she and Zeldin are bounced in 2020.

I doubt it will have any effect. This isn’t New York City; it’s an incredibly rural district.

That’s the district with Fort Drum, yes? One of the redder districts you’ll find in the entire northeast.

Cool, then I guess we’ll be seeing President Stefanik soon enough with her chain smoking upper lip lines.

Yeah and farms. Lots and lots of farms. Also large areas of nothing.

NBZ has infected my brain. When I first read that I felt bad for you and your jeep, but couldn’t summon up any sympathy for the agents.

After dropping off the kids at daycare this morning, I’ve just completed 4 days of single dadding with a 2 yo and a 9 mo. Do no recommend.

Yeah the downsides are just to significant for me to ever feel comfortable risking it.

Yes, that’s the point of why the movie is exploitative. She had to sell out all her values to make it, and the ultimate idea is that there’s nothing wrong with that. Welcome to Hollywood. It’s not a good message, sorry.

Microdaughters are 20 and 17. I sympathize with you here, but am also jealous.

“That sounds awful but I’m also jealous” is a pretty good description of parenting.

That’s obviously bad and all, but really it makes me nostalgic for when stuff like this was the big issue.

Well, on the one hand it’s two girls with rapidly changing bodies and emotions fighting to establish their independence while still needing to rely on you, and on the other hand, it’s a couple of teenagers.

I wasn’t complaining about them being teenagers , I was just nostalgic for having little kids.

The biggest problem with them getting older is with the twenty-year-old and it’s my adjustment not hers. She’s not really doing anything wrong when she’s with friends and basically disappears for a few days, but it can be difficult for me. I actually sent her a message recently “is it so hard to pick up a phone?”

Lord knows I did worse. I was riding a motorcycle and I also hitchhiked around Mexico when I was her age and my parents didn’t really have much of an idea of what I was doing.

Even Cubes is shook. Apparently Warren=Trump.

Cuban said what Warren seems to be missing in her plan is consistency – her approach is limiting aspirations of the American Dream.

“[Warren] can’t say on one hand that “we’re going to demonize wealth” and on the other hand, “I’m a capitalist and I think it’s good to start businesses,” he said. “Because you’re also telling people that at some point, you’ve just got to quit.”

Won’t someone think of all the incredible businesses that won’t even get started because their founders will have to pay extra taxes once they’re worth billions of dollars?

He’s got a lot of nerve saying that, considering he was still sleeping on the floor in an empty mansion when he was a billionaire.
