Oh, that is for sure true. My apologies.
Franco ran an acting school that he got sued over by several students right around the time he was getting a lot of Oscar buzz for The Disaster Artist. The complaints were horrific. The actresses said that he would pick people to do nude scenes and sex scenes, and if people were resistant they were shut out, and the ones who would do it would get parts in school short films. Sometimes they would transfer into real movies, where they’d just be used in sex scenes. I’m doing all of this from memory, so I might not have all the details exactly right, but they’re close.
In the acting school sex scenes, he would then violate norms of sex scene protection (this is essentially very close to rape). He would take off guards that are meant to protect actors (both his and hers). Most of it was related to him performing simulated oral sex on the woman, but I don’t believe that was everything. It was really bad stuff, and made it look like the only purpose of his acting school was to get women to get naked so he could play act sex with them and then try to go further.
Needless to say his Oscar buzz fell apart, and he disappeared. The scandal broke probably right around the end of season 1 of The Deuce or in the middle of it. When the scandal broke, he abruptly shut his acting school and people feared he might hurt himself. It’s hard to know how much of his remorse was real because he’s a damn fine actor.
You’ve seen a lot of movies, so I’m guessing you’ve seen Girl 6. Go back to the audition scene in that and you’ll get a very good indication of the kinds of problems ‘consent’ can have in the acting industry. If a person doesn’t want to take their clothes off, they should not have to. The problem for a lot of actresses is that they aren’t allowed to say no to this, and when they do say no they don’t get called back.
The full frontal male nudity in Righteous Gemstones
Monster’s Ball?
I don’t know, I haven’t seen it, but it seems like the sex scene IS the movie.
Haven’t seen it either. That’s the one where they paid Halle Berry like an extra million to get her baps out, right? Or was that Swordfish?
Glanced over it.
Kids it’s def not needed, it’d be fine if it was only suggested. My friends and I used to say “shh, it’s just me Casper” as an inside joke. I only say that so all can judge me.
As a sex scene with Chlose Sevigny it’s also not even her most infamous: The Brown Bunny has a straight porn-level blowjob.
That was Swordfish (I’ve also never seen).
Monster’s Ball was a small budget with Billy Bob.
Was there even an actual sex scene? Thought there was just nudity.
Sex scene(s) definitely made Unfaithful better
Yeah, like I said - bound to be one or two.
Oh yeah, I’m not saying I care or object to nudity in films. Just that a lot of the talk about its being artistically necessary etc is total bunk. Think Brokeback Mountain probably doesn’t qualify, though, although I only saw it once and may not be remembering whatever scene you’re thinking of.
Franco is a scumbag. I had heard a bit of that but not it’s full force. He should be in jail.
I have seen Girl 6. It’s great. I don’t remember the scene you are thinking of though.
Consent is tricky, especially when career and money are involved. More needs to be done to ensure actual consent is present for any sexual activity.
I mentioned the two recent #metoo books about Weinstein. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
This is top 5 toughest to watch movies I’ve ever seen. I literally wouldn’t watch it again if you paid me $1,000.
That is not to say it’s not a great film.
I’d argue rape isn’t sex, but that’s another discussion.
Lots of sex scenes. Tom and his wife, his wife taking about her partner, the rich jerks at the party, the orgy.
See, here’s the thing. We know there’s a video with a penis in it. We’ve seen said video with penis about 6 times (maybe more). Let’s blow it up and freeze it in the 3 second part it exists in the video in multiple episodes, and create an entire scene in front of the blown up penis. Yes, that’s what I’m talking about. One time on the phone is fine, in short order. One time when the wives see it is another, in short order. Both those ways propel the plot.
That penis was probably frozen on screen for more than 10 minutes in the series, and was intended as shock value/lowest brow comedy. That is completely and totally unnecessary (just like all three other people’s penis scenes were totally unnecessary). You don’t seem to understand the line between necessary and gratuitous. Something that clovis apparently doesn’t understand either. These exact same issues show up in violence as much as nudity/sex scenes, so this isn’t a morality issue, it’s a necessity issue.
no. Ridiculous to think that everyone’s line between necessary and gratuitous ought to be the same.
Artists decide what is gratuitous. Consumers vote with dollars. Not the other way around.
The idea of the movie is that the lead was trying to be an actress. She goes into an audition (cameo by Quentin Tarantino). In the audition, the director forces her to take off her top. She does not want to take off her top, and tells him that. She’s wildly uncomfortable, as he refuses to not let her take off her top. She takes off her top, and is extremely uncomfortable. The way that scene is portrayed is probably how nearly every actress who is ever forced to take her clothes off on camera unwillingly feels. If you need a refresher, just look at the plot on wikipedia, it brought back more memories even though it’s been 20 years since I’ve seen the film.
An aspect of being a great actor is that you can have no shame or humility whatsoever. You have to be willing to do anything. Those people are in short supply, but they sure do win a lot of awards. And often times bad things come out about the kind of people they are.
There’s a line between art and not art, and I know you know that. The vast majority of people working in Hollywood are not artists, they’re butchers.
There is a line, but it’s not easy to find and I want no part in trying to do so.
