Probably, but Trump getting elected will do that to people.
Any sociopaths looking to make a quick buck?
It’s easy to fall into this trap but when you look at the global stats most things are actually getting better in general. People globally are being lifted out of poverty. Life spans are increasing. Diseases are being cured. Social liberties are generally increasing. Crime is decreasing. War is decreasing.
It’s generally a pretty great time to be alive.
People should be milkshaked for saying “people are being lifted out of poverty”. Poor people are doing the lifting.
Thanks for the pep talk, but that’s not what I’m asking. If what I think I’m seeing is a real shift in western society’s outlook, then that is going to be far more important in the short term than whatever the long term trends have been up to the present.
I started a separate thread to log my key moderator actions, in the interest of full transparency. I’d encourage anyone interested in that stuff to sub that thread and follow along/comment as you wish.
On that note, I banned NotBruceZ for 48 hours for a suggestion of, essentially, doxxing the MLB umpire in response to a post calling for him to have an “accident.”
Details here: Log of Key Moderator Actions
I posted it here because I don’t want any accusations that I’m trying to hide it, but please contain discussion of NotBruceZ and specific moderator decisions to the NotBruceZ thread or the log of moderator actions.
Thanks.
You know exactly what my sentence meant. Give me a fucking break.
It’s an incredibly widely used cliche, I guess Stephen Pinker got it going, but maybe it’s always been around. And it’s pretty much always a defense either of the status quo or a note that poor people should be grateful to all the job creators who made it happen.
Double give me a fucking break.
So far, it seems like you care about rich people being castigated but are indifferent to poor people being infantilized through the same rhetoric you used.
I really think I am going to just reply to obviously bad faith readings of posts from now on with a simple “give me a fucking break” because they really don’t deserve more.
You OF COURSE know that’s not what I meant. Of course you do. You know how I know you and micro know that’s not what I meant? Because I give you enough respect to assume you understand basic sentence structure and context.
I also know you are smart enough to know that the global decrease in poverty is a result of a bunch of things including increased democracy, global trade, technological advances, social movements like the spread of unions, growing global and state level legal structures that promote wealth growth, movements like Occupy Wallstreet and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, increased female access to education, birth control advances, and many many others.
It’s a combination of grassroots, government and private sector that has allowed global poverty to decrease.
But of course, what I really meant is “thank god for rich people who are saving all the dumb unwashed poors”
GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK!
My heart 😭

Idk about you but I’m of the opinion that this all-encompassing gestalt of pessimism really sucks.
So you only say it around people you are sure will understand what you mean? It’s not something that you may have a blind spot to and should reflect a bit on possibly rephrasing?
Everybody isn’t always trolling. I mean, I would understand if you thought I was (I don’t troll tho, I’m just sarcastic), but that’s a poor read on mb.
His intent isn’t to chastise you.
I guess we all have our thoughts on who is (and isn’t) genuine.
Disgusting. Kid was running away, holding his pants up, and got executed. Of course it’s the “he’s no angel” defense, as if that justifies an extra-judicial killing. Am I alone in missing the stories of 16-year-olds pulling guns on the police while running away, or am I correct in assuming that these cops are chickenshit cowards who like killing brown people?
Eat the rich.
There is an amazing WSJ article about the WeWork implosion today. Adam Neumann really, really sucks. His wife also really, really sucks. The guy was running around telling people he was going to be the worlds first trillionaire while his capital incinerating business was tanking. The company never made money, it never will make money, but Adam Neumann, a literal king douche who spends his time bouncing around the globe on private jets, walks away with $2 billion.
Conning Silicon Valley >>>> running a profitable company.
Not enough lol in the world for SoftBank.
I don’t think you or micro were trolling. I think you are doing what we all do for too much; automatically assuming the absolute worst possible interpretation of everything someone posts online and trying to find some way to critique everything.
My post was about all the good things going on globally and in it I said “people are being lifted out of poverty” in the obvious context of a post speaking about broad statistical averages.
It takes a concerted bad faith reading to interpret that as some kind of slight of poor people. It just does.
As I said we all do this too much. Including me. It’s driven by a desire to stake our own claim as being “more correct” or “more virtuous” than others online.
It stifles debate.
Imagine an online discussion where all parties try to assume the best faith reading of all posts?
