That’s the reason they couldn’t put China Beach DVDs out for a long time. In the end some music got replaced. They didn’t have whole songs but the show was a soundtrack of the 60s. I can’t think about it without hearing The Supremes.

I only watched Magnum in the dubbed German version (it was just called “Magnum” in Germany, as the P.I. would have no meaning, and I guess calling it “Privatdetektiv Magnum” was too silly).

In said dubbed version, when Magnum was talking voiceover, he often used a phrase equivalent to “I know what you think now”, directly addressing the viewer - does he do that also in the original?

Yeah that’s almost his catchphrase. He loves to say “I know what you’re thinking” because the narrator knows you’re watching a TV show

…but he doesn’t break the 4th wall in the sense that he says something like “I know what you’re thinking. You’re wondering why we had to use a helicopter for this shot.”, right? Because I don’t remember something like this.

Man I miss those TV guides. Gramma used ti always put last week’s guide in a box to save - not on the assumption that you could sell them on a place called Ebay for $5 or more each but because it organized history. Some of those or redic money.

one of the kids on the little league team is the prince of jororo or something, and there are multiple assassination attempts on him while he’s in hawaii. magnum is forced to do the most badass thing he’s ever done, and park his ferrari on a airplane runway while he shoots a machine gun at a plane barreling at him at 200 miles per hour

s4e76 No More Mr Niceguy

an especially annoying client hires magnum to investigate an extremely dangerous criminal named clinton (this was 1984)

they hatch a plan to find this clinton by pretending to be gangsters themselves, they each separately get busted by the police and the whole crew ends up in jail together. they’re waiting for the client to show up and bail them out, and she shows up and tells the officer she doesn’t know them. robin masters eventually bails them out, and even though they all were caught red handed doing the crimes they were arrested for, nobody seems worried about it at the end of the episode. #richguylawyers

magnum gets his parking tickets taken care of as a favor, but it turns out that was never happening and they piled up and now there’s an arrest warrant out for magnum. as he was working off a favor to stop the warrant, he cripples a young woman. the rest of the episode follows magnum as he deals with the horrible guilt

well, in the end it turns out she was faking, and magnum has a gunfight with some hoods who beat her up

Man, rough run of episodes here. Really feels like the writers are phoning in most of these storylines.

The Ivan episode was a Big Deal in my family. My dad was in the Navy during Vietnam and he was of course anti-Russkie. I was kind of young to be watching this show, and, you know, murders on tv, but did anyway. We all couldn’t believe that Magnum actually shot him, but also agreed that it had to be done. Them Russkies bring on themselves, you know.
