s6e116 Blood and Honor

the episode starts out with the gang training for some kind of charity bed race. they’re running down the street pushing a bed on wheels with an asian woman in it, and higgins is shouting at them from the sidelines.

a navy officer drives up and says magnum is needed for an urgent classified matter. magnum hasn’t been in the navy for years, but he’s sick of training for the bed race so he goes. he meets with an admiral who demands magnum rejoin the navy for 6 months. magnum reluctantly goes along with it

the admiral brought magnum on for a mole hunt, and he quickly discovers the admiral’s future daughter-in-law is doing spy shit. early in the investigation magnum gets arrested for espionage when they find planted evidence in his car

the lieutenant who brought magnum in initially pulls him into a bathroom after he’s court-martialed to beat his ass. magnum beats HIS ass and escapes out of the bathroom window. he breaks into the admiral’s daughter-in-law’s house, and she comes home and pulls a gun on him. she’s cia the whole time and it’s the admiral’s son who is stealing classified documents.

magnum and the cia woman are investigating the admiral’s son and find a clue: he’s gonna be at the bed race! higgins took magnum’s spot along with tc and rick pushing the bed, they’re in athletic clothes with knee and albow pads, and higgins is wearing his full suit and dress shoes. he loses the jacket after the first leg, and the vest after the second. magnum captures two spies and recovers the classified documents before taking higgins’ spot on the team and winning the final leg of the race.

magnum goes scuba diving and starts hallucinating. apparently that’s a common thing when scubaing, but he starts hallucinating on land too. so he keeps diving, against everyone’s advice, they’re telling him just stop diving, there isn’t a child with no gear deep down there beckoning you to dive lower and lower.

so he starts scubaing alone deeper and deeper, just the worst thing you can do. and he discovers a ww2 fighter plane on the ocean floor. and that somehow led to solving a mystery about a recently drowned boy.

traveling carnival in town this week, and lots of people are getting murdered. magnum solves the case and one of the freaks burns down the freakshow with himself in it. higgins saves him, and is about to run back into the firely building to save magnum but magnum got out in time. he woulda done it, though.

higgins is tasked with transforming robin masters’ layabout nephew into a proper gentleman. the nephew is rowdy and wants to learn to be a PI, though, and intercepts a job for magnum, and he gets in way over his head and magnum and the crew have to kill some bad guys.

magnum’s favorite snack used to be chili dogs and popcorn but lately whenever he’s eating it’s fig newtons and a glass of milk

higgins wakes up magnum to tell him he’s leaving the estate forever. in a phone call with robin masters, magnum learns higgins is accused of stealing a bunch of cash and some artworks.

when magnum tracks down higgins, he’s in the jungle ordering around a camp of british commandos. yep, higgins is working for mi6 and is a deep cover agent to foil a coup. some other camp guards spot magnum and they’re forced to capture him. higgins busts magnum out of prison and they have a HUGE gunfight. higgins is firing a mounted machine gun and magnum is shooting bazookas, the two of them kill dozens of men. but they keep coming, it’s a large military base. things are looking hairy until TC and rick show up at the last minute in a helicopter.

magnum takes a job finding a client’s long lost father, but he unwittingly brings an assassin to this reclusive dude’s compound. magnum is shot in the chest and taken to the hospital. higgins tc and rick all visit magnum at the hospital extensively lol they have such a strong adult friendship.

as he’s tracking down the guy who shot him, magnum describes his own patented 5 stages of getting shot:
denial
giddy relief
paranoia
revenge
healing (but this time was different, because when he tracked down the hitman who shot him, he killed him. not for justice, but for revenge)

not sure why he feels this time is different. it sounds like this time is what usually happens. unless he accidentally said revenge when he meant to say justice when he was recounting the fourth step earlier.

magnum’s client has him looking for some her kid and her ex.

meanwhile higgins is running like a summer camp for young boys. he taught them how to make that reed hat he wove when they were stranded on that deserted island. the kids are very disrespectful towards him, throwing caviar at his face and reed balls at windows.

magnum uncovers a syndicate that buys children and sells them to wealthy families. the police bust in on a mansion and arrest some dude and the client’s ex. the guy says the client’s child is long gone, and as he’s arrested magnum and the client are sitting there sulking, when they see the kid riding a tricycle on grass. so the guy was hoping they’d leave the kid alone in this abandoned mansion? wtf was the motivation for that lie?

s6e125 Who is Don Luis Higgins?

Don Luis Higgins is yet another long lost identical half brother of jonathan higgins, of course. this one from south america.

don luis captures and ties up higgins and steals his identity. he plays in the televised chess match and wins in seven moves using magnum’s uncle’s rook blitz technique. higgins then dresses up in a fake beard and panama hat to pretend to be don luis.

don luis has been trying to foil an assassination attempt on the president of whatever south american country he’s from. he follows the assassin to the roof of the hotel while dressed as higgins, but is knocked unconscious immediately. higgins, dressed as don luis for some reason, meanwhile runs up to the president directly to warn him his limo has a bomb in it. the president doesn’t get in the limo and magnum kicks the gun out of the assassin’s hand when he gets onto the roof, and captures him.

magnum is limping throughout this episode, and doesn’t want to explain why. meanwhile at the end of the episode higgins appears to be allergic to the plants, which makes magnum question his reality as to whether higgins went to south america and don luis is now living with him in hawaii.

s6e126 A Little Bit of Luck, A Little Bit of Grief

ep starts out with tc trying to stop some capitalists from bulldozing a clubhouse for tweens. he’s wearing a tshirt that says black national swimming & diving championship 1986 alabama a&m university.

magnum is there, trying to cool tensions between the two groups. the capitalist demands $5,000 a month to not bulldoze the clubhouse, which is like the size of a tool shed. when tc says he can’t pay, the capitalist has him and magnum arrested. higgins meets them in lockup to bail them out and excoriates them for disrespecting private property.

meanwhile rick is in new mexico winning one million dollars in a televised lottery wheel spin and falls in love. but some gangster poker players kidnap the girl and ransom her for the winnings. but the twist is she was working for the gangsters the whole time and after he hands them $420,000 cash, she walks back into their car and leaves with them.

but she’s so moved by how pathetic rick is, that she decides to bail magnum and tc out of jail (they went to jail a second time for trying to solve an off-screen mystery) and they both beat up the gangsters in their hotel room. the suitcase gets thrown out of the window and lands onto a moving truck carrying gourds, and they all consider it lost forever.

the girl apologizes to rick and goes home. they have a casablanca moment on the tarmac.
