I went over to lichess a few years ago and have zero regrets.
Did they manage to snag the domain name bridge.com?
Currently, high school classes often don’t have physical textbooks, many classes don’t even have digital textbooks, instead the teacher just creates google slides. Wtf? I can remember some great high school text books for literature and algebra where I worked ahead and taught myself.
I hate that when boarding a plane everyone lines up in advance of their group being called so that they can get that precious overbin space. Then people whose actual group was called don’t know if those people are in their actual group waiting to board or just on standby. An employee should be walking through the waiting line and shaming these people into sitting down.
And when trying to search for flights, you need six steps to find the actual cost after all the addons for seat/luggage.
This is similar to contact lens price. You can’t just google and buy, you need to sign up to see what their “processing fee” looks like, it might be $59.99 and do a complete comparison of cost.
I’d complain about sites that have been enshittified by adding AI features, but it would be quicker to just list ones that haven’t been.
Moderation here has gotten better
Moderation foibles aside, 2p2 politics circa 2018 and UP circa 2021 were glorious and I would love to figure out a way to blame private equity for their downfall.
My back hurts a lot. It never used to hurt in the 2010s
I have seen a bunch of articles that suggest that real wages have actually increased since covid and everyone is delusional about inflation.
It used to be there was 1 thread to contain non-political rants. Now, you have to track 2 threads to find people complaining about things!
Say what you will about Mason and David, but twoplustwo was really ahead of the curve on this
Delivery apps are probably a good example. DoorDash in particular. They exploded during COVID when in-person dining wasn’t really an option, and probably kept a lot of restaurants in business that wouldn’t have made it. But it’s a deal with the devil, and now the experience for restaurants, drivers, and customers is awful. Low pay and drivers relying on tips, customers angry because their order got chained and ended up delivered third and everything is cold and soggy. Restaurants increasing prices to cover DoorDash’s high fees. Sucks all around, but people still use it I guess.
Cereal boxes getting shorter.
Not being given rewards points on Craps machines.
Craps machines.
This might be business in general but every mobile company tries to be different than AT&T and then slowly becomes them over time.
Craft beer did something similar where they swore up and down they would never be like big beer right before they sold out and destroyed their brands and companies.
Google search has to be the ultimate example.
I’ve only flown a couple times in the last several years (will do so again this coming weekend), but I’ve felt like the in-flight experience was much better than I remembered. Delta had free wifi and entertainment screens. Frontier even had some in-flight entertainment, though not nearly as much as Delta. Everything else in-flight was pretty much the same as I had experienced previously. Sit there, get a free soda/juice and a snack.
Basically, my view of enshittification is that everything has more steps to get to the end goal, everything is a subscription, everything requires an account/login (or two!), everything is in its own ecosystem, everything costs extra, everything requires an app download.
And now we’re in an era where it’s difficult to educate yourself on products/services because internet search and review sites have become enshittified.
Everything costs more but you get less.
