Air travel somehow keeps getting worse. Obviously the checked bag fees cause boarding chaos, but the in flight experience is just dogshit, on every airline. The food is awful, the gate and flight agents are downright hostile, the lounge lines/crowds/general shittiness is avoided only by going to even more disgusting in terminal places. It’s basically impossible to travel by air and not be in a terrible mood.
Buying food / the tipping screens. It’s just out of hand and incredibly awkward for all.
Hotels. Prices are stupid for the product, but even more annoying is the endless nickel dime nonsense that has completely ruined Vegas and really any tourist spot in the U.S.
chess.c*m has placed caps on many of its features and moved others that used to be free behind a pay wall. Subscription prices have increased, while some features that used to be available on the lower tier paid plans have now moved to higher tiers.
Also “enshittification” is a specific thing and I don’t think any of these examples are actual enshittification but the word seems to just mean “things that are worse than they used to be” now
The quality of most fast-casual restaurants has gone massively downhill within the last 15 years. Chilis, Panera, and of course Chipotle are some of the prominent examples.
I thought one of the defining features of enshittification is the inescapable network effect of a platform that sits between customers and sellers. I think even the chess.cum example is just a product getting shittier. But I also think that’s splitting hairs a bit and am not trying to derail a vent thread, because all of these things are certainly getting shittier regardless of what we call it

chess dot com captured a huge chunk of the online chess market and now it’s making it’s core product shittier because it knows there’s a network effect stopping everyone from moving to lichess, it’s classic enshittification.
Just this past week the dominant online bridge platform announced it is turning to complete shit. Here soon you will have to pay a monthly fee in order to play more than 6 hands a day.
As bad as chess.com is, imagine if they charged a monthly fee for more than one game a day. That’s about how bad it is.
