English Premier League & Other Club Football Thread

yeah I think it was a combo of clint dempsey + not wanting to be thought of as bandwagoning one of the other top-5, who at the time were way way more well-known in the US. I still feel like a newish fan / borderline poser whenenver I’m talking to some lifer from london who’s dropping greaves & blanchflower references (or even hoddle & gazza) but I did start liking spurs I think in 2007ish (though not enough to remember their winning the league cup) and was officially hooked with taxi for maicon (which I think was 2010?). It’s too bad I didn’t fall for them a little earlier because I think Ledley King would have been my favorite player (as it stands it’s prob Dembele but if Romero stays a decade then watch out). Fwiw ~five years before that I had a solid soccer reason to follow Fulham but trying to follow 2005 fulham in the US was a total slog and I always felt like I was trying to brainwash myself into loving them while meanwhile spurs had sorta been organically turning my head for years (for multiple reasons, and all before I even knew they had been named by Shakespeare, bless His immortal soul).

glad this thread exists—imo there are some terrific & hilarious posters on the 2p2 thread but of the handful of posters there who drive me completely nuts two of them are spurs posters and I know it’s dumb but man I have a hard time getting past those turkeys

The Fulham EL run was super fun, one of the most improbable european cup finalists of our time

yep and Forlan was a super worthy foil. Also the other really good Fulham moment was their great escape in 2007, crazy dramatic and as an american was fun to care about a relegation drama once…please don’t quote this in 2039 if it turns out I’m caring again. Can’t wait to see tottenham in person at the new stadium but one of these days would still love to catch a game at craven cottage; those cab drivers are amazing I’m sure they can get me in there out of eyesight from the statue

I’m lifelong Bears/Packers obsessed and even though I obv didn’t grow up in it Spurs/Arsenal is starting to feel like that in the best ways, I’m totally there for the rivalry and will obv be cringe giggling at arteta in the documentary, but the truth is that imo in the US, some liverpool fans and all chelsea everythings are more inconceivable and hideous, chelsea has had spurs in their pocket and it upsets me. Oo I hope the de jong chelsea stuff doesn’t happen, my heart and my futures bets can’t handle any more of this bs

Don’t think Arteta actually has come off bad in the doc, looks “bad” when you’re watching the 2 min snippets but in the flow everything has been good

Think FDJ is just overrated, although Chelsea do need a new MF

I assumed they were confused and thought it was San Antonio

I’d support Chelsea more (only game I’ve been to + pulisic), but damn is their fan base awful.

Yes!

Arsenal Chelsea and ManU are way more popular.

I cheer for spurs because a med school friend of mine cheered for spurs, so I joined in

Dempsey is also one of my favorite players of all time, but that had nothing directly to do with it

Just catching up on things, but this isn’t a pk imo

Was just about to post that Tottenham was getting really close at a great opportunity despite no real attempts, and then KWP is just stretched to far finally for the equalizer.

Get the fuck in

Yeah I’m USMNT #1, USMNT players for club #2, Chelsea #3, Leeds #4 while they have the current players/manager.

Aaronson is bossing it up right now. Got the turnover that led to the goal too.

You got me correct. I’ve been on the Man U bandwagon since right before Sir Alex. I only say bandwagon since I have no organic connection to Man U. I’m a relatively casual fan as far as my knowledge base goes (compared to NFL or NBA), but I’ve been there the whole time.

Leeds Americanos United, baby. With Aaronson, Adams and Marsch :vince2:

Have wagers on Liverpool to hoist and some Man City guy to score the most but know little about the EPL and am in the market for a rooting interest.

USMNT#1 so there is Chelsea and I just found out about this Leeds United outfit so maybe they are for me but I assume they are garbo.
