Back to the football… And as @Jalfrezi knows I’m ribbing him and others I suppose CelticFC.
It would in my honest opinion be extremely difficult for celtic to be able to compete in the PL.
I’d rate them atm at around Aston Villa, Newcastle levels in playing ability but CelticFC would be lacking in many things these clubs don’t have.
Structure and facilities.
Scouts and Friends in Buying players.
Source of wealth
Many others that I’m not familiar with
It’s absolutely delusional for us Celtic Fans to think we could compete in the PL top 6, imo it would be a massive undertaking with demotion on the line for the 1st few years.
Once the initial couple years faults get ironed out and along with the board new members and investors come along I’d rate them as a standard of a Newcastle or West Ham as long as the investments and signings prove to be somewhat successful.
The 1 promising factor is our worldwide support and the improvements on that as we progress to a higher league with more coverage, we have the potential to have a bigger fan base than most all of the top teams like Chelsea and Arsenal around the world.
The levels off Manchester United and Liverpool are for the foreseeable future unattainable for the moment unless we have an absolutely fantastic 10 years of CelticFC at the top, otherwise we would stagnate along with teams like Arsenal and Chelsea in fan base support around the world.
I think it’s fair to say the we CelticFC fans overestimate our fan base as much as these 2 named teams above underestimate our fan base.
CelticFC is more of a team that’s liked around the world rather than supported in great numbers, sure we have a worldwide base more than most, but it does not translate into £ so much, and that’s the confusion that we celtic fans have.
…
On what @marty is saying if we had that free 10 years of PL money with all that goes Along with it + the correct investments and a forward thinking board I don’t think it’s out of the question that we a decent run at it and could pull in big name players.
CelticFC name alone is bigger than most teams in the PL, its definitely bigger than Newcastle or Chelsea abroad and has a far better reputation among European based players.
The PL is also such a minefield that its also true that we could be fighting for relegation every year for years to come. Unfortunately no-one is guaranteed success in the PL, even Man City.
