I’m enjoying Notes as a kind of Twitter clone from Substack. The backlog of content is growing pretty fast. Not sure if their algorithm is or ever will be a powerful Discovery component. But that doesn’t matter to me, even when I used Twitter, I switched to the tab for a chronological timeline of new tweets from people I follow.
The same thing happens on Notes. Just switch to the Subscribed tab.
But there are a lot of features missing as of now. I mean it’s laughably difficult just to find a Note you interacted with but didn’t Bookmark. Where’s the search bar? How do you find users and follow them? There’s a lot of cool stuff but also a lot of basic intuition functions are yet to be integrated well.
Substack is also notorious for empowering bigots, racists, and transphobes, as well as sexually violent con artists (like my brother eek) who catfish innocent people with a variety of different pseudonyms.
But Twitter is just as much a haven for malicious bigots as well as well intentioned bigots.
All of the platforms generally don’t do anything unless legally ordered to do so. Moderation is a joke outside of edge cases where loud voices shout white wing talking points about free speech, but I don’t see any difference in Safety on any of the platforms unless you’re lucky enough to fit the default for who is likely to not be the most common target for abuse.
I am “leaving” Twitter because Musk has inserted himself into the interface and disrupted basic features. But as far as safety, I sometimes struggle to find a meaningful difference between any of the platforms. Just looking for one with cool features and a few friends.
Sounds like here, at least in intention. … “Social media” in terms of the big platforms and engaging with large amounts strangers to spread visibility of my own content, I find it mostly pointless.

Can someone who’s not a Nazi dingbat please make a social media platform that doesn’t suck as hard as Mastodon? Seems like a small ask. Why is it like only weird-ass dingbats who work in this field?
It is lol it’s like slots or even TikTok. I understand the appeal for lots of people, but that stuff doesn’t hook me longer than twenty seconds max.
