Trump was somehow at least as stupid and at least as ineffective as Bush, but also much much less likeable.
What was frightening about W was how ~80% of the country seemed to be totally onboard with going full fascist overnight. It was like, yup, we’re running torture camps around the world and the FBI is maybe spying on your library checkouts that’s just how we roll now.
9/11 is more distant now but back then I remember people being legit terrified. there were also domestic terror incidents like the dc snipers and incidents overseas that really rattled people. not giving anyone an excuse but people will latch on to anything when afraid

It’s all about the imagery. Plane slams into building live on air? Government can do whatever it wants, if you oppose government interference in your life then you are a TERRORIST! The same amount of people dying every single day during the pandemic but you don’t see it with your own eyes? That’s fake news, government provided free vaccines are evil government overreach, if you wear a mask or believe in science then you are a SOCIALIST!

I was just going to post something to this effect. He thinks twitter has become an “SJW cesspool” because management steered it that way. Not because all these sites ultimately have to make a choice between becoming 4chan or an SJW cesspool. There is no middle ground.
Basically any site where the truth is allowed to bubble to the top (albeit through a lot of shit) w/o being shouted down by trolls, will eventually become an SJW cesspool.

As dumb as he is, I think Trump is smarter than Bush, but Bush AT LEAST had experience as a governor, so he knew SOMETHING about running a government. Trump didn’t know shit and still really doesn’t.
