Less than 2 weeks ago I was making posts here predicting Twitter would be fine, and I genuinely believed it. One of the biggest social media sites, massive network effects, no real competitors. Way too much momentum for a change in ownership to have too significant an impact.
And now… I think he really might kill it? This very stable genius could drive this thing straight off a cliff by year’s end and literally end Twitter.

We literally had this happen. Except it was a dumbass football coach teaching STUDY HALL on the first day of the semester.
He read off one name, no answer. Next name, no answer. By the fourth name he was losing his mind thinking everyone was playing a prank on him - threatening us with all kinds of punishment. Turns out he was reading the wrong hour.

Twitter is weird because it’s created a userbase of irreverent smartasses who think it’s hilarious that the website is crashing and burning. I have no clue how this all plays out.
It kinda seems like Twitter was going to die anyway? Between it and Facebook imploding, maybe social media isn’t really the essential thing we think it is.

I’m hedging a bit on Mastodon. It can’t function as a drop-in replacement for Twitter, but I can imagine scenarios where the whole loopy federation thing actually works out. Like maybe there’s a central mass of linked mainstream orgs and people choose their servers as fashion accessories or lifestyle statements or whatever. And then out on the fringes it gets a little more wild. It seems like it would have a very Web 1.0 feel.
And, of course, I can easily imagine many scenarios where it completely does not work at all.
I think what I find even more interesting is that there is a huge faction on Twitter watching all this shit go down that concludes its owning the libs, and then there are the libs who are happy to watch it burn of this is what Elon wants to do with it.

My stepmom keeps bitching about this, I aggressively berate her, then she’ll whine about it again a few days later. My retort is basically to call her a selfish asshole. I don’t get why they/them is so triggering to these fucking morons.
