I’m sure the legal points matter but the important thing is that even if Trump is defiant, in the end, he has to do as he’s told. It has to be clear he’s not bigger than the system.

We’re obviously not there yet, but this is more what I picture.
It cuts off just before the staff breaks but you get the idea. I don’t like the end of this scene (which isn’t in the clip) but think it was a mistake to omit the breaking of Saruman’s staff in the theatrical version of the movie.

Yeah the dunks are funny but don’t comments like this make the judge seem a little sideshow-y? I feel like introducing even a sniff of partiality and bias to these trials will be what people glom onto.

I was thinking about this, too. My take is similar – that these are probably the types of comments that get made all the time by judges - they are human beings, after all - and are considered completely benign, but because of the profile of this case and the defendant(s), every comment will be over-analyzed. I don’t know if that means he should or shouldn’t make them.
The particular comment doesn’t even strike me as one that would elicit a laugh. Just seems lame. If a judge is going to crack jokes, make it good material.
He absolutely shouldn’t make them.
Comments like that are exactly what Trump wants.
