Damn. Yeah got cancelled. Venue is claiming power outage but they had enough power to continue serving us overpriced drinks in the 90 degree heat until they finally cancelled it after about 2 hours past showtime.

I had a decent summer of concerts this year, capping it off with The Who last night in Seattle. It was awesome to see icons Daultry and Townsend for the last time. Daultry looks old, but still has amazing vocal power. He clearly wasn’t happy with himself though as he complained that the air conditioning was messing with his voice. Still a phenomenal show with numerous classic hits.
Flaming Lips was my favorite show of the season. It was GA floor seating and I was close to the stage. The lights show, theatrics and party atmosphere made it my favorite show of all time. Will see every chance I get from now on.
Styx with Colin Hay and Don Felder was another great show. Going to see Colin again next month, he seems to like performing and interacting with fans, which is fun. Styx put on an amazing set and, while it was my first time seeing them, they probably performed as well as they did in the 80’s
Band of Horses was a huge disappointment. Was close to front row center, but still don’t want to talk about it

We had Styx through our venue as well. What a fun ass show. The rotating keyboard is such a great centerpiece for the band
Went to shaky knees and got to see cage and MCR on the same stage and pretty close.
Seeing the black parade performed in full was something.
I recently saw Halestorm/Lindsey Sterling/Apopolyptica in Madison. I have seen Halestorm quite a few times but not the others and it was nice to see rock/metal played on cellos and such.
Highly recommend seeing The Hu, they opened before Iron Maiden (plan B after Aerosmith tour cancelled). Had no idea what we were going to see.
Saw Colin Hay, singer of Men at Work, in a small theater on a solo tour. He was the only one on the stage and played an acoustic set of mostly his solo work with a few more popular Men at Work songs. Was more like a comedy show than a concert as Colin spends significant time with amusing personal stories of the ups and downs of being a rock star. Very funny guy. My personal favorite bit was when he recently heard “land down under” over a supermarket sound system as he was checking out. He got all excited and told the teenage cashier he wrote the song, who was completely underwhelmed by this information.
Highly recommend seeing this guy if you can, just be prepared for music you don’t know. Which he acknowledged and made up for by being funny
Oh man, that sounds like a great show. Overkill is one of my all time favorite songs, and interviews I have seen with him sure make it seem like he’s a genuinely funny dude.
Damn, looks like I missed his west coast swing. Seeing him in Livermore would have been perfect
Just found out Colin is playing with Ringo Starr when they come to our venue in June. So excited
I saw 52 concerts this year, and roughly 20 or so comedy shows. Some highlights/lowlights/surprises of the year.
Highlights:
Collective Soul and the Gin Blossoms: The lead singer of Collective Soul is a bonafide rock star. He oozes charisma and the it factor of being somebody who was born to be on stage.
Styx: goddamn, what a show. If you ever have the chance to see Styx, go do it. The setup for the lead singer/keyboardist was probably my favorite setpiece of the year.
James Taylor: Dude still has it at 77. Masterful storyteller, and very funny. Was a blast to see live.
Boys II Men: Speaking of still having it. This was the highest energy non rock concert of the year. All the hits, and unending energy for a nearly 2 hour set.
Incubus/Manchester Orchestra/Paris Jackson: all three of these were great. My second favorite show of the year.
Third Eye Blind: So good, my favorite show of the year and it wasnt particularly close. It helps that this was my first time (somehow) and ive been wanting to see them a long time.
Darius Rucker: Puts on a really fun show that the crowd loves. One of the louder crowds of the year.
Gwen Stefani: Had the most interaction with the crowd of anyone I saw this year, took time between every song to chat with people up front. A lot of fun and high energy.
Lowlights:
LL Cool J: Not sure what the fuck was going on here but he spent the entire night in a mask like Ye on the Alex Jones show. Was not particularly melodic either but at least he sang his own stuff.
Rick Springfield: Dude thinks this is still the 80s and 20 year olds want his dick.
Bob Dylan: Woof, what a weird fucking show. He comes out on stage shrouded in darkness, doesnt say a word to the crowd, sits at his piano and sings a bunch of aongs Ive never heard of for an hour (its still dark by the way, like two very orange lights are shining on the piano) and then he fucks off without saying a word. He also wouldnt let the stadium cameras film him, so between that and the lights I didnt see him at all. This would also file under surprisingly bad.
Ty Dolla $ign: not for me, may have been better if I knew his stuff. Audience was aggresively rude for some reason.
The Beach Boys: Hang it up guys. You do not have to do this forever.
Surprisingly Good Shows:
Reba Mcintyre: What an awesome voice, especially from someone who looks to be 4 foot 2.
Hauser: Go see this if you have a chance. A rock Celloist aa a headliner? Very cool show, half rock concert and half beautiful classical music.
The Mavericks: This shouldnt be a surprise but they opened for someone who will be on the next list and they should have been the headliner instead. Great show.
Melissa Etheridge and the Inidgo Girls: I think this was the loudest crowd show all year, which makes me come to the conclusion that lesbians are very loud. 95% women crowd, but the music was incredible. Ethereidge has such a strong voice. I was blown away.
Hyolyn: Had never heard of her before, but this waa my first time seeing high energy kpop and it was so much fun.
Jeff Chang: I don’t speak Mandarin, so the fact that I enjoyed this aa much as I did without understanding the lyrics is a testament to how he is as a performer.
Sublime: The original lead singer’s son plays with the other two original members and they were all great.
Surprisingly Bad:
Fastball: I really enjoy Fastball, they have some of my all time favorite songs. But they were way off that night. Its possible they were sick as they came through in the middle of flu season.
Harry Conick Jr.: Boring, and void of charisma. The exact opposite of what I expected going in.
Alabama: Too loud, No energy, and boring.
Dwight Yoakum: This is who headlined in front of The Mavericks, and they outclassed him in every aspect. Not sure he was bad, but following them seems like a mistake.
Tim Mcgraw: From what Ive heard from others this was just a terrible night overall for him. Will give the benefit of the doubt that hes normally better.
Janet Jackson: oh Janet, getting absolutely outclassed by your neice in the same year. Low energy, and 100% of the songs were lipsung. Just awful.
The worst:
Aaron Lewis: Fuck this guy with all the hoses. He played two months after Trump won and the entire night was him in a drunken stupor complaining about Michelle Obama and reminding everyone Trump won. Insufferable and the audiencd were pieces of shit too.
Ancient Aliens Live: ok, not a concert but I feel bad for everybody that showed up for this. Imagine a two hour powerpoint about archeology from non-archeologists whose answers to everything was “Aliens did it.” Abysmal. One of the worst “shows” ive ever seen. Any time you can count the number of people asleep in the audience as a percentage, you know things are bad.
Tony Hinchcliffe: Get fucked, you hack. The only sollace to this night was the crowd booing him when he said he wouldnt tell any jewish jokes because he has a 3 year deal with Netflix. Got a couple Nazis to walk out after that.

He joked about being in Ringos band in his solo set, reminding the audience, “He was a Beatle!”. Much funnier when he said it of course
