I’m a slacker; didn’t realize this thread existed.
I’m actually not a great fan of live music but I’ve been to a pile of concerts over the decades, mostly cos other people drag me along. Springsteen, U2 and other stuff.
3 that I enjoy remembering:
REM at Glasgow Barrowlands in 1985 (I think - old fart, bad memory). A casual friend mentioned them coming; I’d never heard of them. I remember being right at the front; Peter Buck doing his jumping around. Went to the bar to get a pint and walked right back down to the front. There were only about 30 or 40 people there total. lol.
Burning Spear in Key West 1989. Smashed out of my box; it was great! Bit of a reggae fan here.
Samantha Fish. 2021 - covid time, so lots mask requirements. If you like blues rock heavy on guitar skills and Sam Fish is playing near you, just go! Trust me on this; she’s absolutely fantastic live.

What a fucking dichotomy of a weekend. Ill post more later but long story short, Friday was the hateful, bigoted bullshit of Aaron Lewis (formerly of Staind) and the Stateliners. At least 6 mentions of Michelle Obama either being named Michael or having a penis was the very tip of the hate iceberg.
Contrasted with tonight, Fastball, Gin Blossoms, and Collective Soul putting on a joyous concert filled with wall to wall optimism and fun. Absolutely cleansed me of the hate and ire I felt after last night.
Also a full circle moment for me. Collective Soul/Cranberries was my first ever concert 27 years ago. What a blast of a show.

Cranberries opened the first festival I ever went to. They had just started to break in the States, so I wasn’t super familiar with their music, but Dolores was so charismatic and her voice was so powerful that they were probably my secont favorite set of that whole weekend. What a talent.

I’m seeing Metallica for two days in Tampa, sad part is that it’s in June, but all good.
Follow up to this, the final things both groups said.
Aaron Lewis a “god fearing christian”: “Do everything you can to get liberals put in jail, they are evil and deserve it for trying to tran our kids.”
Ed Roland, a christian man who seems like a generally amazing dude: “I have no interest in trying to convert anybody to anything, religiously or politically, I just wish you all love, peace, and rock and roll.”
My understanding is that it’s two completely different set lists.
Yeah, it will be, should be a cool experience. I’ve never seen them live before so I’m excited for it

Have never been a big concert goer, all the more so at this stage of my life where I can’t stand crowds, parking hassles, late starts, etc. At most I’ll see a relatively minor artist at a small venue here in Japan where I can take a train to it.
But man I really would love to see Metallica on their current tour (have never seen them live).
I’d much rather see a show in a smaller venue.
I went with a couple of friends to see Haircut 100, ABC, and Howard Jones (I love the 80’s). Smaller theater, older crowd, and the show started right on time.

if I were to go to a concert, I think I would want to be able to sit for the entire show with an unimpeded view.
That was the great thing about the concert I went to, everyone was in their 50’s, so very little standing up.
