Discussion of domain ownership transfer

sounds like a question for @LFS

For me: personal principle. Posting on a site that is owned by a person who holds the views expressed in that thread is different, to me, than simply posting on a site with a person who holds those views. I am totally open to the possibility/likelihood that I’m being silly and it’s purely symbolic.

So FWIW, as I stated in that thread, it is not my intention at all to exclude simp or anyone else because of their views. I just don’t want him to be the owner of a site on which I post.

Adding: I totally agree it would be great if there could be an ownership group or something like that, rather than a single person.

You’re entitled to your opinion, but I was confused because in the other thread you seemed to be drawing a comparison between simp and Mason/Mat and what they were doing on 22. Those two were doing a lot more than posting idiotic and bigoted views, which I believe is the only thing simp is doing.

You can object to all three of them, but throwing them in the same category with respect to the forum control they have exerted is not just silly, but it’s inaccurate. Those two (Mason/Mat) were much, much worse.

thank you. and before i make my decision, was there an ultimatum by you or someone else? because i don’t want to vote and then find out later the unwritten implication is you self ban forever. if the choice is keep LFS one of my favorite posters or keep simp’s government name on some piece of paper i didn’t even know he was the on until today it’s a no brainer

You can see the post as linked above, but I had a very strong reaction to something simp posted, a light went off in my head “wait doesn’t he technically own this site, if so I’m out”, somebody said “well yeah but we can change that” and here we are. “Ultimatum” sounds like I was making a threat and that was not my intention.

well, your awful, hateful, horrible, violent threats worked. it swayed my vote and i hope everybody understands this vote has consequences beyond how it’s portrayed cause i don’t want to lose you over somebody’s name in a registry somewhere, just stay. please stay.

All for LFS seizing the means

respectfully requesting we leave the title :folded_hands:

I do not like forum drama and feel very sheepish

okay listen i’m being a little jokey but i don’t want anyone to misunderstand the stakes here, because it’s not clear.

the vote is: keep LFS as a cherished member of our community OR keep simp’s real name in a database somewhere that makes no difference to anybody and nobody is even gonna look at until they come to arrest him. that’s not what it’s saying the vote is, that’s not the spirit of the vote or addressing the ownership situation on its merits, but that’s what the vote is, and imo it’s unfair of you to put us in this position but if you want us to reassure you that your presence here is valued, you’ll have it.

I hope you have a way of contacting simp outside of this site.

Well, I think it’s pretty clear that is not the motivation behind this, but if anyone reads the exchange in the thread and concludes this is about me “winning” or whatever, not much I can do about that.

Ya it obviously had nothing to do with you or your ego. That is a weird read on Bettlejuice’s part.

Jesus Christ.

You sound like one of those people who thinks it’s unfair of someone to not spend their money on a ticket to a Louis CK show

Clearly this wasn’t intended by LFS to get attention or support and LFS was not angling to own the site either.

I don’t know if anyone but Oreo, zikzak and I remember this, but beetlejuice made things pretty difficult when trying to organize the site in the first place when he kept calling zikzak a Stalinist.

i’m not having a go at lfs i’m saying losing him would be a tremendous loss and it’s a way way bigger consideration than whether simp’s name is on some paper

You were suggesting that maybe he’s doing this because of his own insecurity and that it is unfair - which is ridiculous. He’s free to decide whatever reasons he has for posting or not posting here and he doesn’t owe any of us his posts. It’s not unfair.

by making the statement that you’re gonna leave unless some minor clerical measure is passed, that’s an unfair way to treat your friends, because you’re gonna win every time, because you’re my friend.

It’s not just a clerical issue and it’s not very friendly of you to suggest that it is.

And that’s an absurd definition of ‘unfair’. He disagrees with you and he’s entitled to do that. You’re not entitled to his posting or his feeling the same way about this as you do. He’s not threatening to take anything from you because it’s not yours. It’s his. You may not like it, but it’s perfectly fair.
