I am criticizing someone for writing a shitty op ed that contributes to the party’s decision to stick with Biden, and your response is “in the real world, newspapers are going to do that”.
Like the argument that “of course Dem leadership and the media need to support Biden, he can’t be replaced as the nominee” ignores that Dem leadership and the media play a HUGE role in whether or not Biden can/will be replaced. If a bunch of Dem senators said they can’t support Biden, and the NYT and Maddow gave this shit credible, thorough investigations you think the party wouldn’t get him out?
Let’s remember that Biden literally isn’t the nominee yet. There is no can’t replace him; there is only won’t. And indeed, it’s fairly clear, they won’t. Does anyone doubt that it’s because the only viable replacement is entirely unpalatable to the eDems? Are people starting to appreciate just how badly centrist Democrats want to avoid UHC?
For those who supported Bernie in the primaries and leaning towards never-Biden in the general election, is there a path to replacing Biden with a non-Bernie candidate that will lead to you voting for the Democrat against Trump?
I would vote for most of the 2020 dem candidates if the DNC replaces Biden, simply to show support for them doing a good thing by replacing him. Maryland doesn’t matter either way. And while I obviously think Bernie would be the best choice to replace him, I can respect that people have decided they hate good things so we can replace him with the most safe boring insurance lobbying Scrantonite available and that’s fine.
My opinion before all this was that people in states where it matters should vote Biden, but also that it’s kind of stupid to blame a voter who chooses Green or whatever instead of blaming the candidate for not earning their vote. I don’t know how I’ll feel on November 1 if Biden is on the ticket, but I know that the LDO correct move at this moment is to nominate someone else.
Because it would be insane to replace him with anyone other than the person who has the second most votes and that person is completely unacceptable to the party.
If they’re going to toss out the guy who got the most votes, I don’t see why they couldn’t give it to Booker or whoever. Isn’t that basically how the Republicans wound up nominating Lincoln?
I am not familiar enough with the intricacies of the process but there has to be a mechanism to choose someone other than the guy who has the most votes. What if he was indicted or died?
