Democratic Primaries 2020 - Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

We’re this weird transition generation that feels comfortable with the old ways and generally grew up in a time where things weren’t too hard for us (obviously, individual experiences vary significantly), yet at the same time are not so fogeyish that we can’t see the benefit of progressivism. So it’s like we want change, but are too comfortable to take risks for it.

I was actually just telling one of my kids last night that we bridge the non-technology and internet generations. I feel like that relates somehow.

who the hell are you? Can you not read? I said “in no particular order”.

How are you not angry at Bernie? I am! He should hire better people, and run a better campaign! He had 5 years to get this right and he somehow managed to do worse this time! Not only that, now you’ve got the Biden wing indicating that Bernie’s losses this time are the final nail in the “progressive” movement’s coffin.

Honestly, I’m mostly pissed at both these old fucking fossils for running. I’m pissed because we’ve gone an entire year and literally NOTHING changed and we’re right back where we started. I mean, why even fucking bother? Imagine the interesting race we could have had if neither of them ran. God, it would have been so much more interesting.

Also, I’m pissed at all the people here who are raging and bitter and saying they are gonna check out.

STOP. ONLY. CARING. ABOUT. THE. PRESIDENCY.

Fucking go out and find down ballot races that have a chance of flipping and work for those. Oh, I know it’s not as glamorous or interesting to talk about property taxes and school funding as it is to talk about sweeping revolutionary ideas, but hey, guess what…I’ve got a secret.

local politics IS the revolution

Mayo Pete is a millenial.

Spoiler alert: We are all just pissed at the results like you and aren’t going to check out.

Also I guess I might as well post my rant since we are all doing that tonight. I’ve said it at least 20 times in this forum but the real enemy of progress in this country are the comfortable moderate “liberal” media and pundit class and the comfortable moderates that makes up a huge percentage of the Dem party. These people like the status quo because it benefits them. The fact they are marginally better than Trump is a reason to reluctantly vote for them but there is no mechanism for change through like 20 of the 22 candidates in this primary season (maybe all of them).

How many examples of Obama or Pelosi or Pete or whoever throwing their power behind the thing that benefits corporate America at the expense of the working class do we need to see as a population before we say enough is enough? This cycle it is obvious we are nowhere near that point. Frankly on this forum we are almost as delusional as the Ron Paul stans were in 2008. Literally zero progressives are anywhere near the levers of power and they likely will never be in our lifetimes. Why? Because the supposed party of the progressives literally prevents them from having any chance at it by kneecapping them in a variety of ways if they ever get close. The party is literally designed from the top down to stop anything that negatively impacts the profits of the rich and corps. Bernie is just the most recent example of someone who ultimately had no chance in this situation.

I don’t really have a point to this other than to say it sucks.

We probably need a black male AOC. Hopefully not a fake one like we already had.

I mean, every other serious candidate has come out of the woodwork to anoint Biden. Warren hasn’t. If you think that the DNC isn’t putting considerable pressure on her to do likewise, I don’t know what to say. If she were to buck her party’s backing, she is very much risking her career. If you think a Bernie endorsement is worth having Warren shifted to a lol committee or worse, being stripped of campaign funds or facing a funded moderate challenger, the lol @ you. Bernie is done. He’s been done, and it’s been obvious. Warren saying she likes him changes nothing. At this point, she’s more effective as an ally of at least some note in the Senate rather than as a nobody.

Are y’all seriously still frothing over Warren? JFC.

I’m not really sure I get it. Like, sure, I’d rather things were more progressive? I don’t think that precludes me from assessing realpolitik?

I’m saying this is just ideology dressed up as realpolitik. For a public servant, being unwilling to risk your career for what you believe is right is unethical. A vote for Warren was (and apparently still is, given the numbers still voting for her) a vote for Biden. A way of voting “not Sanders.” And hey, maybe some people really naively believed in their candidates, but I think most us knew who the Boomers were voting for, so voting “not Sanders” meant, well, you know the thing.

Warren is in the position where having her career is potentially a much greater means of doing what is right compared to squandering it on this lost cause. Also, I think we should have a bit of humility when it comes to declaring an endorsement of a particular candidate is what is right. I don’t think black people hopped onto the Biden wagon out of ignorance or delusion or malice. Biden has his problems, but I think us white guys should be doing some listening before declaring Bernie the obvious and only moral choice.

it’s very easy for me to look at warren’s voting record, policies, her stated goals, her soliciting donations based on being a progressive and see who she should be endorsing

comparing that to ‘black people’ is fucking stupid

Regardless of one’s opinion of Sanders this seems true. The total pie of voters is roughly what it is regardless of the issue. There’s no game changing hidden pool of voters willing to come out if only the right issue is brought up. Which means it comes down to turn out, polarization, and structural issues.

this is literally so dumb. warren isn’t doing shit for the people right now but whining about mean tweets and making jokes on SNL. she’s not pushing any ideas, she’s doing FUCK ALL at a pivotal time. and she’s fucking old too. and she spent so much time on stage talking about join the fight, blah blah. she must have known people like you would be around to cape for her. fucking joke

I see no reason to believe it would cost her her Senate seat here in MA. Sanders supporters would come out to vote for her in droves.

This analysis too must be further broken down by age and class. I’m sure it won’t surprise you to learn that younger and lower-income black voters tended to stand with Bernie.

There’s some percentage of Berniebros who would feel betrayed by a Biden-Bernie unity ticket, right?
