This. Bloomberg would do to Trump what Ross Perot did to Bush. That would be funny with Bloomberg doing everything to try to stop Bernie and then being the reason he wins.
Probably why they’re so shook. Dudes gonna clear out most of all the things completely fucked about the DNC and I can’t wait.
Doubt it. Leadership is decided by a vote of DNC members - about 450 people.
Getting Matthews merked almost makes four more years of Trump worth it.
Depends on where he spends his money on ads and campaigns, especially if he does targeted Facebook stuff… We’re pretty close to an era where a well-funded third party candidate can choose where and how they impact the other candidates chances.
What are the dates on the upcoming primaries? I’d probably toss some money to Cisneros and any legit Pelosi challenger. Are they on the same day as the presidential primaries? That bodes pretty well for a Pelosi challenger, I would think.
Good question. I assumed all primaries were on the same day
I do think people are underestimating how the eDems will shift if he gets the nomination. It’s easy to be sickened by them and turn that disgust into an assumption that they will sabotage, but I think they will mostly fall in line like the eRepubs did around Trump. I think the eDem line will just be somthing sort of like “Bernie shares our values, and while his proposals are further left, they are the right starting point against this dysfunctional Republican senate”

This makes more sense than having WI going wildly for Trump
I actually argued very heavily that they would jump on the Sanders train because thats what would be best for their ratings. Their viewers hate Trump way more than they don’t like Bernie and they would lose a ton of viewers if they weren’t constantly negative.
After yesterday though and MSNBC behavior I dunno. I still hope so, but I’m really starting to question that position now.
Heres to hoping because if they or the DNC sabotage Bernie this country is going to be so incredibly fucked.
This is just not true. While the eDems are slightly less corrupt than the ePubs, there is so much money on the line. This is a machine with a lot of moving parts that a lot of people make money off of. Bernie isn’t proposing what Trump was. Trump was all window dressing and more of the same swamp realigned to different actors. Whoever existed within the machinery and showed some loyalty to Trump was accepted into the fold so that the wheel could keep turning. Bern is not suggesting this at all and actually wants to change the system.
While he have to compromise some to make it a reality? Surely but I don’t think this is likely to play out the same. Look at a few players… Munchausen, his daughter is a phrama rep iirc. Kerry/Biden have multiple family members who are lobbyists. Pelosi… these people are all on the take.
It’s a good thing we aren’t giving them much of a choice. They fuck Bernie over and Trump wins the party absolutely implodes.
They are much better off helping him win and playing defense in congress.
Not to mention if they fuck Bernie and Trump wins in a massive landslide, him jailing democrats is likely.
So here’s what I’ve decided for myself:
In the event of a brokered convention, if Bernie gets a 45% plurality, with Biden getting say, 30% and Pete 25%, I will vote blue no matter who they choose because a majority vote went for a moderate. But if Bernie gets 45%, Biden 25%, Pete 20%, and (assuming she’s still in the race) Warren 10%, and they try shoving a moderate down our throat, I’ll stay home or write in because now it’s 55% progressive to 45% moderate. I won’t count “other” as in either group
Btw it’s not just for Bernie. If a moderate gets a plurality that beats the popular vote of a progressive and they choose a progressive, I’ll feel the same way.
Is this a fair reaction for me to have? It’s as fair as I can think to be and as much benefit of the doubt I’m willing to afford the establishment. I actually think the longer Warren and Pete stay in the race, the better it is for Bernie. They are mostly hurting Biden at this point
Hahahahaha yeah sure that’s a great idea. NYT headline the next day “Bernie admits he’s working with Putin to subvert democracy” or some bullshit
you are the chris matthews of this site
These people that still think institutions matter get an eye roll from me. IC can investigate whatever but you better believe the only information that will come out will be what helps trump the most.
It seems I was wrong about the DNC leadership being physically replaced. They just become subservient to the campaign.
“In 2000, when I was chair, after [Al] Gore beat [Bill] Bradley in Iowa and New Hampshire, Bradley essentially withdrew. A week later, someone arrived at DNC headquarters and said, ‘Hi, we’re taking over,’” said former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who ran the DNC during the final years of Bill Clinton’s administration. “They really take over. And you know, as DNC chair, that you are now working for the campaign.”
That’s speculation. The fact is the 450 or so members of the DNC will vote for leadership. Perhaps we’ll see whether or not they become subservient to Bernie Sanders.
Holy shit this is spot on
Not to mention Bernies whole message is not me, us. And regularly talks about an electoral revolution and voting for progressives or dems down ballot and winning back the senate.
And talks about how he will use the bully pulpit after he is elected to make sure we win the house and senate in the midterms. Which is one of dems biggest problems, they don’t vote in mid terms. But if you got a president for once going on there and campaigning hard and having a massive grassroots organization of volunteers working in the midterms.
The whole " the opposing president loses seats in the midterms " is partly because when dems win they don’t give a shit about the midterms. But Republicans are constantly reliable voters even in midterms. If we can mobilze dems to vote in the midterms, we vastly out number the republicans. If we can turn dems into reliable midterm voters I think the idea of losing midterms for dems disppears.
He will need to do lots of popular shit in office though. And I think a lot of the centrist dems who are big scared will actually really start to love him when they realize he isn’t what Chris Mathews says and is just doing stuff to help them without sending them to the gulags.
Bernie has a better chance of anyone at swinging the house and senate to the dems.
