Dealing with Deplorable Family and Friends

Yeah that second part is pretty yucky zara. You really don’t have any idea what you’re talking about. Your version of parental disapproval is not another human being trying to crush you into a shape that makes you into a perfect slave for them. That’s what we’re talking about here not ‘parental disapproval’.

And yes that’s what that woman’s mother was doing. She is trying to force her child to live in her version of reality. That’s a huuuge red flag. I would be zero % surprised to find out this poor woman is doing a lot for her mother on a weekly basis in exchange for a lot of emotional abuse.

Yes, but there are degrees of interference. It ranges from annoyance to really toxic behaviour.

I’m extremely tired of people telling me to make up with my parents because I’ll miss them when they’re gone. My dad is dead and it’s the best thing that ever happened to me. It’s people like you zara who seriously think that their situation is applicable. It isn’t and we aren’t alike. I did not need to learn to react to my parents expressing disapproval in a non dramatic way, I needed their influence over my life to cease entirely.

I really like you zara but you really shouldn’t try to give people advice or even have conversations about stuff like this if you can’t stop taking this line with people it hurts.

Tell him Portland cops are a bunch of cowards.

Somehow that one hasn’t worked its way into the rotation but tomorrow’s a new day!

Ask him if this is why he wants to destroy democracy in America.

Mr Hyde park can’t imagine what it’s like to have unsupportive parents lol

He heard on Facebook that buses of antifa people from Portland did that. The good white people, er, I mean Real Americans of Minnesota had nothing to do with it! Your town could be next!

I read this the other day. The unit is voluntary and they are resigning from that and not from being cops - so it’s more that now one of their number has been held accountable for their actions they all decide that it’s not as much fun any more.

Seems a bit harsh. It’s pretty reasonable to be resistant to getting the vaccine if you’ve already had COVID. It may not be obvious to why you would need the vaccine at that point. It certainly wasn’t to me.

My brother was adamant about not getting vaccinated. He got covid back in February. Doctors told him he could get vaccinated after 3 months. He got vaccinated last week. He won’t say why he changed his mind but I’m pretty sure it’s because he was sick for 2 weeks and had to use up all his PTO at work. He’s the typical conservative that doesn’t give a shit about anything until it directly impacts him.

Although this trait seems to be more common among conservatives, it really isn’t uncommon among liberals either.

No doubt in my mind that the people who switched from Trump to Biden were just sick of thinking about politics and voted Biden so they could go back to being ignorant of the world around them.

It’s not obvious to anybody.

All we know is that you will get higher antibody titers to a specific antigen if you get the vaccine. But immunity probably has more than just one mechanism at work. And some of those things may work better if one actually gets infected with the virus.

Until someone does a study with one group of people who had COVID + no vax and another group who had COVID + vax and checks outcomes on all of those people, we don’t really know for sure that vaccinating someone with prior COVID helps prevent morbidity or mortality.

At this point the evidence suggests that it is reasonable to think that it would, but it is not a stone cold lock.

I don’t think there’s a super compelling case for getting vaccinated after having covid. Re-infection rates are super low. The case that you do make is that there’s an RCT for people vaccinated showing that it’s super effective when no such study is really possible for people who get covid.

So I would have gotten vaccinated if I had gotten covid, but meh, evidence ain’t great.

Because everything is so polarized and politicized today, by not getting the vaccine it can be seen as signaling that you’re not comfortable with getting it, which is then interpreted by others as avoiding the vaccine because of perceived risk of harm. Not sure how many people think like this but now that there is plenty of supply it seems to me like people should be trying to get it to “signal” to society that it’s the right thing to do, even if it’s maybe not helping you personally.

If you believe that, then you accomplish the same thing by just (falsely) telling everyone that you got the vaccine and encouraging them to do the same.

If she’s just some rando commenter, yeah, probably. I know exactly what this one is all about, though. It’s a long time coming.

The whole “Guinea pig for Big Pharma” sounds like the type of stuff you read on Natural News.
