Is he a flat earther, too?

He’s got the Trump brain worms

Caught that too. Wtf does he mean by flat earth theory in quotes?

Now gravity, that’s the one to challenge. Have you ever SEEN a graviton?

It’s another friend of ours making fun of him. Notice the intials.

Okay so the dissonance some Trumpers feel isn’t necessarily what I assumed. Some of them are increasingly panicked, but not because they think the virus itself is a problem, rather they are panicked about the Dems panicking over nothing.

A guy I grew up w/ owns a flower farm. Absolutely loves Trump. He’s pissed at this liberal hoax because a lot of local churches that normally buy his flowers in bulk for Easter have cancelled orders. He said on Facebook they are 80% of his business.

His mother is a 85 year old smoker that has dodged cancer at least 3 or 4x. Is he worried about her? No. He’s mad at the liberal media overreacting.

It’s as if we need a strong safety net for small businesses so when shit like this happens, they can survive. I’d tell him but he’d just laugh and call me a libtard. Oh well.

Tell him he’ll have a ton of funerals soon. Assuming they let people buy flowers for them.

They’ll probably let you do the wreath for the hospital for your end-of-life visit.

It’s so weird talking to people about…anything.

I’ve been talking to my mother more often lately because of boredom and coronavirus and it’s amazing how often she immediately talks about how businesses will be harmed by this pandemic. I mean it just blows me away about how much she cares about businesses that don’t give a flying fuck about what people need to survive. Any rational human being is going to care about the human cost before the financial cost and yet it’s too often the opposite in America.

She was talking about how the government should bail out airlines and I thought, “Why do you care about them?” They’re money-grubbing pieces of shit who leveraged themselves into a situation where they need a bailout to stay afloat. The economy isn’t going to tank if they fail. Why not care about people who are going to lose their homes and jobs because they can’t pay the bills due to not being able to work? I say let airlines accept the consequences of their actions.

After this, my mother openly wondered if I was being a socialist. I was confused mainly because what I stating wasn’t anything close to socialism. It was merely an opposition to unfettered capitalism. When you look at America from the outside, it’s kind of shocking how far to the right the Overton Window is economically. Seems that anything to the left of capitalist exploitation is communism or socialism in America.

I think part of this disregard for the working class is from people from the working class being ashamed of being part of it. So they lie to themselves claiming that they aren’t because they wear a button-down shirt to the office everyday. If they can convince themselves that they are not part of the working class, then they can support legislation that’s intended to hurt them.

In the end, I took my mother response as a compliment even though it wasn’t designed to be that way. If caring about the working class, the class that I and most people are a part of, is wrong then I don’t want to be right.

Dividing the underclass has been the go to move for elites since forever. They have it absolutely perfect right now, with roughly half of the voting population enraged at the other, with the actual people in charge laughing all the way to the bank and the rich and powerful absolutely always winning.

lmao at people thinking they can just act like tucker carlson in real life. this isn’t the fucking TV where you get to call someone a socialist, dodge their response, go to a commercial and move on. if my mom called me a socialist i’d be dunking on her for weeks.

“Me: buh bye You: I’m cool! I wear a suit! No way am I a loser! Well you’re wrong now buh bye”

Socialism is a completely meaningless word.

When I had to escape out of Nicaragua I picked up these two guys around 20 - one from Switzerland one from Denmark. We hung out for a few days and they got into this big discussion about safety net vs. self reliance. The Swiss guy was all for self reliance and the Danish guy was all for the state helping people.

But the funny part is - the shit they’re arguing over is all like massively to the left of anything we argue over here. Like obviously you need UHC, benefits for poor people, subsidized housing and education, etc. That’s clearly a given. You’d be crazy not to have those things. It’s just a question of how much.

But they weren’t even arguing about how much. They were just arguing about what you think the philosophy of govt should be. Should it help nudge people in the right direction and pick them up when they fall? If yes you’re a socialist. Should it only exist to provide the bare minimum of services needed for a functioning society and let people fall on their faces otherwise? If yes - you’re a capitalist.

What that bare minimum of services should be - both sides can actually more or less agree on. But they’ll still argue all day about the philosophy part. Where’s the fun in haggling over degrees of policy?

Since when was being called a socialist a negative thing?

There is a lengthy thread in my neighborhood facebook group about the panic buying and how it is “socialism” at work.

Like, it literally makes zero sense, but the deplorables up here are equating lines for toilet paper to USSR bread lines, which of course means it’s socialism. I don’t even know how to counter this level of stupidity. I’d leave the group but they sometimes have useful updates about the HOA, etc.

Yah like, this is unfettered capitalism at work. They’re so close but so far.

“If caring more about the welfare of people in my country than the corpations that don’t give a shit about us makes me a socialist then call me Karl fucking Marx” I mean yeah.

The combination of social media and politics has made me realize that there is a certain level of stupidity that once someone reaches they become a completely lost cause. And yet I have an incredibly hard time not engaging and trying my damndest to make them realize just how stupid they are.

This would be one of those times.
