Dealing with Deplorable Family and Friends

Nah, the chronicles of you and your family are a staple of this forum. I remember asking you in '16, “Are you coming stateside this holidays? If so, TR.”

The only shrine I’ve ever contemplated making was to my dead dog and she actually deserved it.

You have a heck of a memory. I sure don’t remember that.

Anyways, most of the family meeting stuff (at least with deplorables) is over. I’ll be meeting my sisters and her boyfriend (all low-key anti-Trump) in Philly for the New Year and seeing my cousin in D.C. (openly anti-Trump) during a short vacation there.

Will spend more time with Mom and her boyfriend (guy who states that he has “problems with lots of nationalities”) before going back though.

It sounds like early in life, Granny missed the experimental phase with politarding. She probably married early and was occupied being a dumb, dutiful wife/mother.

Untethered grannies-gone-wild, once she was widowed and left to her own stunted devices.

I assume all likes for that post are an IN

Had blocked my brothers number for quite a while and recently unblocked it. Hadn’t really talked to him though and just avoided him at family events.

Out of the blue last night he starts texting me screenshots from Facebook of someone I’m friends with on Facebook but don’t actually know in real life, they are a DSA member. Something about them saying they are “pretty much mad 100% of the time”. And then tried to extrapolate that to all lefties or something. Anyways he seemed salty because I had blocked him on Facebook as well, I said something like I don’t have time to talk with people that think McCain/bush were executed by secret tribunals, he laughed it off at first but end of the convo below.

Why is it the deplorables who are always so god damned vocal about everything? Can’t remember if I recounted the story about getting into a huge blowout with my parents in front of my toddler at a restaurant because my mom overheard some people talking about a two-state solution in Israel. It ended with me calling them monsters for their flippant attitude towards family separations so that was fun; somehow they ended up apologizing to me but only because they “don’t like to fight” (I did not apologize for shit). Also had a very long drunken conversation about trans people with my FIL but in fairness to him he was actually trying to learn and not demean anyone. He did whine about entitlements a little as an unrelated thought but overall it wasn’t too bad (he’s not really deplorable but does share some of their characteristics and beliefs).

Talked to a cop during a NYE party who said she “dominated” her aggressive rescue dog on the first day by wrestling it to the ground and sitting on the dog’s chest until it stopped fighting back.

I mean we didn’t talk politics but she ranted on about dealing with pulling people over. Didn’t admit to any police brutality or exploiting her power but I mean she came off as totally nuts. Not sure if she should be a cop.

So deplorable but not for supporting Trump

You do a lot of socialising for an introvert Johnny.

He retreated to the bathroom to join his other introverted internet friends. He’s one of us <3

Heard some boomers at work today talk about how millenials were selfish for NOT having kids because their generation is all me me me.

Found this very insightful

This one always makes me mad. Am I supposed to believe that boomers sat down and did the sums on social benefit and were like “well I don’t really want kids, but I’d better have them for the good of my community”? They did it because they wanted kids. What this really highlights is the incredible extent to which Boomers are willing to characterise their own choices and behaviours as being virtuous rather than as being a normal response to their circumstances. If people’s behaviour has changed, it can’t be because circumstances have changed, it must be because their generation are simply better people. Fuck. Off.
