Any time they bitch about the impeachment, just say “I don’t care. Do you?”
What are you worried will happen? Do they insist on talking about it? (or do you?)
I do. It’s actually more tolerable than the alternative (them fighting with each other).
Sorry to hear that. Should any of us nearby arrange to stop by around the time you need backup for your central thesis?
Currently traveling through Australia and have noticed a lot of casual racism by a buddy of mine and his friends towards foreigners (Chinese in particular, for buying up real estate and driving prices up). Not sure how to handle it so I’ve generally stayed out of it, other than subtly trying to point out that the struggles of the young generation are global, not confined to Australia, implying that it’s more the rich in general than any ethnic group that should bear the brunt of animosity for this. Haven’t really broken through though.
Ask them how many condos in central Sydney they were planning to buy.
A few people saying racist stuff about black people at work…im going to have to go from gentile correction to going off the handle again to make it go away…sigh.
They are lazy, fu you are one of the laziest mofos ive ever worked with. You half ass sob picking up all the light shit all the time.
Update: I’m at work and feel like shit because I’m a little hungover. Thanks Trump.
In the case of housing prices it’s the policy of successive governments over the years that are a problem imo. Not cracking down on excessive foreign money in the market is a factor, but a more minor one than generally suggested in segments of the media. I wouldn’t say anything about it as there’s a zero percent chance you will be listened to. There is, not unreasonably, a stereotype about Americans that they like to lecture the rest of the world about stuff and you’ll just play into that.
Yeah when you’re new to a place it’s best to just observe for quite a while before passing any judgements at all or saying anything really. Doing anything else will just make you look bad because they’ll have a rebuttal you haven’t even thought about yet and end up looking stupid.
I would enjoy discussing these things at length with someone in an intelligent manner. This live discussion with Cruz scratched the itch. A lot less infuriating all over than I anticipated, with notable exceptions like the climate change part.

So I think this post goes here.
Went to a baptism today at a Luthern church. First time in anything but a Catholic church and was surprised at their openness and inclusiveness. Mentioned several other religions; played a Tibetan Buddhist bell; boasted of their help of immigrants and refugees. I am anything but religious but felt hopeful regarding this pastor’s? (Idk what they call them in Lutheran) homily/sermon.
At the after party of the parents to the newly baptized, was talking to one of their family members. I mentioned how pristine and white everything was, as the couple of the kid had just moved into a new construction house. He without hesitant said “And why do you think they moved to this town, keep them colors out”. No one said anything but I retorted that he must have missed the minister’s sermon. Some awkward silence until someone quickly highlighted the Dolphins had a good play and his comment was quickly forgotten.
I would have gone much further with this drunk uncle of the family and the rest who didn’t question his comment but it wasn’t my family and didn’t want to ruin the occasion for the couple. Takeaway (and confirms my experience in the Catholic Church) is that while some religious people give so much more than they take, if JC tried to come to America today, he’d be thrown right into a cage on the border.
$20k+ for tuition (and books at least?) ? That doesn’t include housing?
I have two kids working on transferring to UC. I’m going to be poor for a long time.
I think it’s 13k without housing
Yeah, that’s about what I had thought. I’ll still be poor, but I’ll manage. Both kids are working a bit too and maybe will get some aid/scholarships, so it might not be too bad.
Had to dig up this thread to share this lovely exchange from my family.
First the good: my 93-year-old grandfather, former republican, emailed the family the following:
XXXXX sent me a link to the below article. You should read all of it. Trump will undoubtedly win the impeachment trial in the Senate but we MUST do everything we can to see that he is NOT re-elected! That means VOTING, talking to your friends; whatever you can think of to get rid of Trump and his cronies. It is a very serious time but DON’T despair. Stay positive and we can beat this sad time and state of affairs.
Now the WTF: my aunt, the second-youngest child of my grandfather:
Dad, I have to say YYYYY [her husband] and I will be voting Trump. YYYYY watched the impeachment hearings and listened to the Christian radio station at the same time. And of course, there are two sides to each story. The Christian churches support Trump and believe that it is crucial that we get him re-elected. Next year will be very interesting times!!!
Lovely extra flavor here is that I recently learned YYYYY has been sexually inappropriate and touchy with several women, spanning several generations, in the family.
I’m posting here instead of replying something like the following:
[Aunt], in case you don’t know, YYYYY has something in common with Trump and it’s not Christian values.
But I was told about this stuff in confidence and it’s not my place to out him, I think. Just lovely stuff all around.
I tried to find it and I know it was posted here recently but you could just respond with the distracted boyfriend meme where he’s looking away from Jesus to evangical Christians.
Visiting my mother for the first time in a year and apparently Muslim immigrants are trying to implement Sharia Law.
What’s weird is that my mother really doesn’t show any support for Trump. It’s more disdain for the Democrats. Even the shit she shares of Facebook isn’t pro-Trump more than anti-Democrat.
I mean she still holds some of those deplorable views but may not be as keen on Trump as I thought.
Dear God.
Are you two very different in age?
No i’m 33 and he’s 31 lol
