It’s obvious USPS management goofed up and committed themselves to providing Sunday deliveries in rural PA without considering that their workers there are a bunch of church-going Appalachia hillbillies. I’m actually surprised he’s the only employee objecting to this. So now these schmucks are going to fire this guy who seems like a reliable 20-year employee because management is too dumb to handle very basic staffing issues.
As much as we LOL at companies like Amazon/FedEx/UPS churning through the delivery employee base, the same thing is happening at USPS especially in the Rural Carrier roles. In many ways USPS is even worse for the entry level carrier because it’s a union job and you have zero seniority, so a lot of times you don’t get scheduled for the whole week but they might call you the day before or the morning of expecting you to show up and deliver.
This was back in like 2016-2017 when my friend was started this role in an rural area that just started doing AMZ packages. I’m guessing some of the scheduling things have gotten better, but also I’m sure a lot of people ended up chosing to go work for a different carrier because they can do the same job and work as many hours as they want.
And people should be able to take those days off too.
I just think needing to adhere to some religion in order to get a specific day off is bullshit but I don’t think I’m communicating that well.

Why don’t atheists claim to be adherents to whatever gets the most holidays? Is someone actually checking to see if they attend church (or whatever)?

Similarly, if an atheist blasted The Smiths at 5:00am all over a city as an adherent to their faith, they’d get (rightly) laughed out of court as a (non) religious extremist.

There is a small congregation next door that celebrates Orthodox Easter by setting off fiteen minutes of continuous fireworks at midnight (this is in a very high density urban neighborhood). They literally hit my window sometimes. You would think that after years of this I would figure out which day it is and make sure to not pointlessly go to bed at 10, and you would be wrong. FWIW apparently this year it was yesterday.
