Because it’s an ugly, utilitarian building function. The most prominent feature of the front of your house is saying “VEHICLE STORAGE”. That shit should be around back with the trash cans and the gas meter, not facing the street.
Draw a child’s picture of a house. Is there a garage in it? No, of course not. Because children understand that a home is for people, not cars.

Well, when you put it that way, I can see why it is something some would dislike.
Not something that I’m particularly concerned with. In the grand scheme of things, the outward appearance of my house doesn’t concern me much. I care about the inside way more.
Even after your explanation, I doubt I’d pay more than a 1% premium for garage doors on back of side of house. Not even sure I’d pay that much.
