COVID-19: Chapter 9 - OMGicron

Seriously, Covid remains a threat and I find that taking basic precautions is not hard to do and mostly a slight inconvenience. So I’ll continue to be cautious.

It is anecdotal, but none of the parents (10) in our social group (all vaccinated JJ/Moderna/Pfizer) got covid.

A Phoenix firefighter and police officer both died of Covid within the past week. Legit tragic—the firefighter was 42 and had 6 children—but one thing missing from all the hagiographic local news coverage was any discussion of whether or not they were vaccinated.

EDIT: Credit where it’s due, the Republic story (paywalled) does include this:

Angulo is the first Phoenix firefighter to die from COVID-19 related complications, according to McDade. It was not immediately clear whether he was vaccinated.

Police officers and other first responders are among those most hesitant to get the COVID-19 vaccine. No national statistics show the vaccination rate for America’s entire population of first responders, but individual police and fire departments across the country report figures far below the national rate of 74% of adults who have had at least one dose, according to USA TODAY.

One of my closest friends who is immunosuppressed has been almost fully locked down since April 2020, hasn’t been inside a store, restaurant, fully masked anywhere in public, etc. She was in her brother’s wedding last weekend, after it was postponed a couple times and dreaded the thing for the last year. She acquired some rapid tests beforehand knowing she’d end up getting it, and of course it came back positive after she started feeling a cold come on yesterday. One of the other bridesmaids and her family also confirmed pozzed via PCR test.

She made the difficult decision to go knowing that the choice was to get sick or permanently destroy the relationship with her family. People are the worst, man. I’m now on team Global Warming.

A friend tells me that only like 25 % of Metro Police officers are vaccinated. They tout 50%, but that includes civilians and volunteer staff. Such a failure of Leadership.

As a bearded man, he shames me

I wonder if the grammar, terrible formatting, and spelling errors make it more appealing to people.

Are you (implying) they don’t understand (brackets)?

Good copywriters and marketers often use the colloquial language of the people they are trying to persuade.

“When are we going to stop putting up with the idiots in this country and just say, you know, it’s mandatory to get vaccinated?” Stern said. “Fck them, fck their freedom. I want my freedom to live. I want to get out of the house already. I want to go next door and play chess. I want to go take some pictures.”

Didn’t want to believe it but it says verified fact right at the top. So I’m convinced.

I don’t see a Verrit code so I will remain skeptical for now.

I attended my brother’s wedding a couple weeks ago. A couple people wore masks at the start, but by the reception I was the only one. Haven’t heard about anyone getting pozzed, though I don’t think I would. I figured there was a 5% chance someone would die due to the wedding.
