Oh man. Not sure I belong here. Iā€™m older than dirt. I remember when dirt was invented. Was a big deal at the time.

Why do you use inches for dick size instead of cm?

No for real, do you Euros use inches or cm for measuring dicks?

I booked a booster appointment. Walgreens made me declare that Iā€™m obese. So at least thatā€™s settled.

Hey, my town is #1 in something!

Yes this is a blatant attempt to break up the arguing about old shit, since I canā€™t personally move it to the appropriate thread anymore

Worth following the link for an excellent use of one of my favorite gifs.

Where are you getting DEXA for body comp? Iā€™ve asked for it and they look at me like Iā€™m crazy.

Iā€™m arguing with an honest to god antivax doctor in my local hospital networkā€™s Covid report comments. Google search says he is affiliated with them. It took a while for him to come right out and say it but he finally did express the belief that people are ending up in the hospital not depite being vaccinated but because of it.

I told him he should not be practicing medicine. Guess Iā€™m gonna see where this leads.

Iā€™m not asking anyone to try to read this in detail but has anyone come across this study yet?

I canā€™t go checking every country for case rates and i havenā€™t been able to find a source to explain what the deal is. Study says vaccination is unrelated to case counts. Iā€™m telling the guy either way the biggest benefit of vaccination is it keeps people from hospitalization and death, but i also find it hard to believe a legitimate study could find the results these guys say they found.

Looks like theyā€™re ignoring all kinds of confounding factors. Fig 1 is obnoxious as can be.

I donā€™t always read epidemiology studies during a global pandemic, but when I do I choose [wait for itā€¦] ones written by a geography PhD and Canadian high school student.

I told him I figured something was up with it but in the meantime gave him the NY Times graphic showing almost all the high deaths per capita areas in the U.S. since June 16 are in the south where vaccination rates are low.

He and I both live in a low vax region. His own hospital report proves he doesnā€™t know what heā€™s talking about. Or it would except he thinks partially vaccinated are being hospitalized due to vaccine complications and that theyā€™re not being reported properly because until they have two doses and 14 days they count as unvaccinated.

Also, itā€™s a correspondence, not a real research paper. I pretty much stopped reading right there. Good rule of thumb is always figure that stuff out first before you waste a bunch of time reading complete bullshit. ā€œWho are these people? Are they reputable? Is this journal reputable?ā€

I know someone who got one here:

But if you just google something like ā€œDEXA scan body fat Chicagoā€ (or other major metro) there are plenty of places that offer it.

Ah, yeah I looked before and closest place advertising it for body comp was over an hour away. Iā€™ve had a DEXA for BMD (@ hospital) and when I asked for body comp the lady said she had no idea what I was talking about lol.

Thank you. Thatā€™s the kind of thing Iā€™m totally ignorant about. Very tired of seeing bullshit dressed up as legitimate scientific research. If itā€™s posted by one of these apparently legitimate journals I never know what to make of it.
