COVID-19: Chapter 9 - OMGicron

The FDA is funded by drug companies?

Kind of. Drug companies pay fees when they submit for FDA approval.

DO YOUR RESEARCH!

We’re all getting exposed. I feel like that writing has been on the wall since August. The current COVID caseload in Israel is enough to seal the deal for me. The name of the game is keeping hospitals from overloading while we continue administering vaccines. The only question left is what combination of vaccinations and natural infections will permanently stop the spread, and whether an even more infectious variant comes along.

With that in mind, I sorta wonder what the endgame for China is. They still have insane mitigation measures (up to and including requiring all people who go to the doctor with a fever to go to special Covid clinics, withholding medications that suppress fever from the general public, locking down any place with a Covid case, etc).

Their vaccine isn’t that great (66% effective against symptomatic Covid). They’ve vaxxed about as many people as they’re going to. Covid is gonna sweep the country, or continue burning at a slow rate with mitigation measures ongoing…forever?

Afaik those mitigation efforts are costing china massive sums of money. My bosses boss was telling us that the people we get our supply from, when there is a single covid case at say the docks they lock down the whole thing. If that’s true that’s insane.

China is stupid rich why don’t they just buy moderns/Pfizer?

I mostly agree we’re all going to get it. That said I had a long face to face with my covid positive sister and didn’t catch it. Maybe some of us will fade it because vaccine + immune system? Or maybe catching it is super random and I’ll get it from someone who coughs 15 feet away

Better without bolded. She can just fuck off.

Or given their disdain for western IP laws just copy one of those.

She finished her email with something like “so I guess this is goodbye until the the truth is revealed”, so no GTFO from me necessary.

This is such bullshit though. Nobody researches everything. There’s no time. Everybody grants the benefit of the doubt to reliable sources and experts like 99% of the time.

People like this “research” only the things they don’t want to believe and that have been politicized. This ding-dong is not doing her own research on plate tectonics, or celestial mechanics, or heredity. Skepticism toward the scientific consensus has usually been limited to two topics: climate change and evolution. And now immunology I guess.

Social media has broken tens of millions of brains. The algorithm is basically the computer from Space Odyssey 2001, it has overpowered human cognitive functioning.

so, what’s the deal with boosters? can i just ask my doctor for one, since it’s fully authorized? or is it still only through government vax effort for which i do not yet qualify?

planning foreign travel in 4 months or so, it might be a good idea to be upto date on my 5G coverage.

Like Suzzer said, you can just sign up online at a local pharmacy and they will pretty much give it to you no matter what.

I don’t think that’s quite what was going on in 2001, but human minds are just not equipped to use social media without training and psychologists need to study the fuck out of this phenomenon. I tend to be a free speech absolutist, but at a minimum gov’t needs to put the smack down on social media for children and teens.

This is what it looks like if you try and schedule through the CVS website. You have to “declare” you’re eligible for a booster, but when I did it there was no verification and there were no questions when I actually went in to get the shot.

Social media is a problem acutely understood by people under 40.

The people in charge of regulating it are overwhelmingly 70+ boomer nitwits.

Not good.

I just walked in to Walgreens and checked a box, it was that easy

It’s all true. My GF’s mom is a doctor in China and says the same.

To be clear, when I say we’re all going to get it, I mean be exposed—probably multiple times. Many of us will fade illness due to the vax and possibly previous exposure.

What’s the current thinking on the correct time to get a booster? I’m young and healthy, but spend a lot of time in packed cardrooms with antivaxx idiots (although a solid % of them probably have antibodies at this point), so basically guaranteed to get exposed.

I’ve been exposed a bunch of times now. At least four that I know of. So far Moderna has held up, even though I’m 8 months past my second dose.
