COVID-19: Chapter 9 - OMGicron

I know someone who is personally against the vaccine but I believe is persuadable. They just have been given bad information from some people and grew up in a conservative family. I am working on trying to provide them info from sources they will view as unbiased. The first two claims they say they’ve seen is that the vaccine is responsible for the recent spread in cases and that there have been many reports of negative reactions to the vaccine that are worse than getting covid. Can you guys help in my quest to find sources that address these claims directly? Thanks!

I think the first step is getting the person to pin down sources or evidence that they will accept. You can’t just presume they’ll accept something you think they should think is unbiased. You gotta get actual verbiage from them about what they’ll accept. Otherwise the chance you’re wasting your time is too high.

Yeah, basically it just can’t come from a source that could be viewed as liberal media. Sources direct from doctors, researchers, medical systems, universities, etc are what is preferred. This person actually respects the academic world, but views media as biased. This is why I think they are persuadable.

Hmm - seems like the antivaxxers are coming around! She’s doing ‘research’ on graphine oxide poisoning.

This comment definitely takes the batshit crazy prize:

Well, here’s the Moderna report that breaks down their side effect rates:

Fuck. Looks like I missed the fakey natural oil scam boat

Here’s a Reuters fact check from several weeks ago, apparently Fauci said something that was misinterpreted and got some attention.

Honestly this one seems refuted more by common sense and observation than anything else. If you’re cherry picking, obviously you can find somebody that got vaccinated and had a bad reaction, worse than the average covid case. But with hundreds of millions of doses administered, we’d know if the relative risks were even remotely similar and they’re just not.

Maybe he was just unpopular and the other cops told him they were all quitting and he should quit too and now they’re laughing their asses off.

I didn’t understand how they could have fucked up this badly. It wasn’t like they were using some other set of numbers and then switched to Open Ottawa:

Here are their numbers:

15,997 Moderna and 16,382 Pfizer. Let’s see this Ottawa area daily vaccine data sorted by descending for Jun 1 to Jul 31:

Ah, Houston. Looks like they probably fat fingered a ----4 as ----2 there also because no way am I giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Data is here:

Original withdrawn manuscript is here:

Are we certain it’s not one out of 800,000?

Knowing this I’m asking what their source of information is. Highly doubt its from any of the above.

You’re gonna do a bunch of work then get hit with a link to some history professor’s anti-vaxx blog at Bob Jones University.

0.5 is the over-under for number of disgruntled anti-vaxxers causing a workplace shooting in the next six months after being fired for not getting vaccinated
  • Over
  • Under
  • I need to do more research
  • I don’t gamble

I’m liking the over, but I’ve got some questions on how the bet is graded.

Does the shooter have to claim that the shooting was due to the firing?
Does it have to be his own workplace?
What if the shooter does it because he knows he will be fired, but isn’t actually fired yet.

Let’s go with no, yes, and no. Must have been fired, must be their own workplace, just assume it was due to the firing even if other reasons are stated.

Follow-up question: where should the line have been set?

Wouldn’t that still be win-lose b/c they’re still roaming the streets unvaxxed?

Win-win would be them having to get vaxxed and still quitting anyway or them quitting and then dying.

I’m guessing this is the correct response to people who say they don’t need to be vaccinated because they already had COVID?

1.5 would be a lot tougher for me than 0.5.

More questions:
What if he plans to shoot but is apprehended before? What if he gets there with gun out and then is thwarted before he fires a shot? What if he fires but doesn’t hit anyone?
